Opened drivers door from inside and..... craaaackalac

Well something broke in the latch mechanism. The door still opens from the inside, but the handle is loose and doesn't retract the way it did. Am I just going to have to take it apart to diagnose, or is there some "part" thing that fails on these? TIA

this morning my door handle broke inside too. opens from the outside, but not the inside. had to hop out the pass side.. this is going to be a fun winter.

The arm on the inside of the handle broke off. Most parts stores should stock the drivers side handle. You will have to drill out the big rivets to get the old handle out.

Thats a built in feature to tell you it is too f'n cold, move south

Mine broke about a year or two ago. Just had to roll down the window to get out for a few days. A cheap part and a few hours later - works great!

The spring that retracts the handle broke. Same thing happened to mine. Opened the door and I heard it break. Boy, was I relieved when the handle still worked and I found a piece of the spring.

I never fixed it though. Didn't feel like ripping another door panel off. Car died a month later anyway.

If you do get a replacement handle say at the bone yard
use the one from the rear door. It will last a little longer before breaking because it has been used less.
