I have my 3.2 long block on the stand and I am starting to tear into it. I would like to run compression tests on all the bores.

How can I do this while it's on the stand? I have the timing belt off so I realize whatever I do will be limited to one compression stroke.

If you know of a procedure, please let me know.

My idea...
Turn engine upside down.
Pour oil over crank and into piston bore from the bottom.
Rotate engine by hand at crank to **** bores
Let it soak for a moment.
Turn engine back over and spray a little oil into spark plug hole.
Connect compression tester
Position piston to bottom dead center
Close valves (rotate cams by hand until lobes face up)
Crank engine
Note gauge dial.

What kind of readings would you expect.

Boy I'd be surprised if that would work...every time I've ran a compression test it took several revolutions to reach the max psi of the cylinder. Not sure how on turn would net you anything...I'd like to know if it is possible however.

So do you have any suggestions?

Hook up the timing belt and hand crank as fast as I can?

Throw the flywheel and trans on and wire up the starter???

well, considering all the intake is off, and the other plugs are out, you may be able to crank it fast enough, but i dont think your readings will be 100% accurate.

The trans is currently in use...

I suppose I could re-engineer my bench grinder and spin the engine off of the damper. That might be fun. Mount the grinder to the stand and run a belt to the crank pully...yeah...thats the ticket!

Let me be the first to tell you that unless your grinder is a fractional HP motor, or has some unheard of amount of torque... I don't see this venture ending well.
