Im doing the rod bearings tomorrow, and figured i'd ask this oil question. I have always ran castrol gtx 10w30, but it's been getting kinda cold and the oil pressure goes up a little slower than i really like. I was thinking about switching to 5 weight, but my front main already leaks a little, so will this slightly thinner oil leak more? I think so, but ive never ran 5weight so im not sure. Thanks for any help! Will

Says right on the plate over the radiator to run 5W30. I run that in the winter and 10W30 or 10W40 in the winter. I do not think it will leak any worse with 5W30.

I wrote to Ford Motor Co. on this very question--back in the early '90's I thought that 5W-30 seemed a bit thin during summer months. They replied in writing that 10w-30 was OK for warmer weather but stay with 5w-30 for winter. I change oil & filter every 2 to 3K miles and do not leak or burn any in between changes. Still running organic name brands (QS, Ex,Havoline,Valvoline, Pennz, Mobil) with excesslent results (120,000 miles and smooth as silk idle and performance). No plans to switch a car this old to synthetic due to horror stories on leaks and clogging, etc...Good luck with your engine work.
