Oil Viscosity Issue - Cold weather

Guys and gals, how are you?
I am going to be driving up to Montreal this weekend and just read the weather report and said that it will go down to 4 degrees F this Saturday. I am currently running Mobil 1 10W-30 in my car. Will my SHO be hurting Sunday morning when I go to start her?
I am just going there for New Year's and coming back on Wednesday, and debating whether to change the oil to 5W-30 or even 0W-30.

Since it's Mobil 1, I think you'll be ok with 10W-30. For a prolonged period in that temperature, I'd use 5W-30.

I use M1 5-30 here in the northeast (RI), and I debated using M1 0-30 during the dead of winter (to the point of buying a case & staring at it on the shelf for a few months now).

My wife went to the Winter Carnival in Quebec a long time ago - she said it hit -20 easily while she was there & the bus died.

I think you'd be ok if you're going up, parking it & coming back. If you're going to be driving it around, I wouldn't do 10-30 myself with a SHO. A small block chevy, sure.

Ya, stay with the 10-30 you'll be fine. But like Ric said, if you lived in Ottawa, then you might consider using 5-30, But even then, i still might just stay with the 10-30 even then, but I've got a lot of miles on mine, almost 85,000.

20-50 Mobil 1 synthetic has more viscosity than 10-30 non synthetic! From what I have read it is not advisable to ever use a 0-30 weight.

ya 0-30 is usually for little engines, like a generator or air compressor, something small like that, it's thin, but never really gets that hot like a car engine. 20W-50's kinda excessive, and in theory will actually use HP to turn the crank through it, but ya, it'd be damn good viscosity protection. I run 20-50 in my S10 truck right now, even tho it's winter, but i've got a beat to **** 4.3 with 260 on the clicker, she's got a good knock to it. I'm changing the engine in the spring, hopefully to a small block V8, 305. Hopefully it'll keep running all winter *knock on wood*
