I have two engines Im building, first a mild 1994 3.0 bored to 3.2

The other will be a 1995 3.2 bored to 3.3 with forged pistons.

Right now I have two pumps/ pans, one for a 3.0 and the other off the 3.2

My question , should I use my 3.2 pump and pan on the mild 3.0 and find another 3.2 pump and pan for the 3.3 or should I just run the 3.0 pump/ pan on the bored 3.0 ?

Or in other words how good is the 3.0 pump on a 280 HP motor with factory clearances??

I was always told the 3.0 and 3.2 had the same oil flow , some myth is that the 3.2 has a tiny more flow.

Nontheless Id use the 3.0 one without a sweat.

BTW the 3.0 pan and 3.2 pan has a differant location for the oil level sensor , one is in the back one on the front , if you swap them , you will need to re-wire that sensor.

I'd use whichever pump is in better condition. Pull 'em apart and check. And ditto on the flow between the two.

John Hrinsin recently took some measurements of a 3.0 and a 3.2 pump and posted the following to yahoogroups:

"Here are the dimensions for the 3.0L and 3.2L V6 oil pumps;

3.0L 3.2L

inlet port ID 0.768" 0.793"
Gerotor width 0.313" 0.392" 25% increase
outlet port ID 0.474" 0.474" "

It's been known for awhile that the geartor on the 3.2 pump is wider than some (if not all) of the 3.0 pumps. I wouldn't be surprised if the 3.0 pumps were updated to 3.2 specs at some point but I don't know one way or another. I used a good condition 3.2 pump and haven't looked back after 30K+ miles.

There ya go. However, I still stand by my other comment. If the 3.0 pump is in better condition, use it.

I've used both with sucess as well.
Remember the 3.2 pump will leave a gap in the timing cover vs the 3.0.
