Oil Pump?

I have a problem guys and gals finding an oil pump.

I am working on doing a lower engine rebuild, due to the rod bearings starting to make noise. I, and a couple of others, have come to the conclusion that my oil pump is or has gone out which is why the carmel smell an the rod bearings are starting to sound off. I stopped driving it when I noticed that smell and confirmed the rod bearing noise.

That was why I had the engine replaced in the first place. I talked to the mechanic who replaced the engine, and he said that he didn't even crack open the oil pan of the engine he put in my car and had previously told me that the engine had been sitting around for many years on a shelf somewhere.

I can get the rod bearings, after jumping thru hoops to find them, now the main problem is finding an oil pump.

Does anyone know where to find one? I e-mailed RCM Automotive and haven't heard anything back yet. I also e-mailed midwest sho, still waiting on their response too.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!!!

Good luck finding a new oil pump. They have been discontinued for some time now. I really doubt that your pump has bit the bullet anyhow, they are VERY tough. Simple, and nearly indestructible gear pumps.

I do have a 85k mile oil pump if you really feel the need to replace yours.
Email me if interested, and no, it wont be cheap.

Why so much trouble getting the rod bearings?
Normally they are a stock item for Napa stores.

I called the local napa and they said 8.50 per set, and they would have to get them from another part of the state and it would take a couple of days.
Whereas I found them on ebay for 44$ with shipping.

I've been told that new oil pumps can be had from FPS for a pretty penny. Not sure on that though.

I agree with Kenny; I doubt the oil pump has failed.

I don't know what else would explain rod bearings going out so quick on an engine replacement that had 50k on it, and also having the carmel smell?
The mechanic who put the engine in said that the engine had been sitting for 7 or 8 years and he put it in and didnt even check the oil pan.

A simple lack of proper maintenance will lead to pre-mature rod bearing failure. (as in >3k oil changes) So will beating the snot out the the motor.


The "sitting for 7 or 8 years" probably didnt help anything either. After such a long time, unless it was stored PROPERLY it would necesitate tearing the engine apart.

Wear surfaces dont like to be woken up hastely after a 8 year nap.

As a side note, I even remember reading a thread about cams SNAPPING because of long storage and improper attention to the oiling system when the thing was fired up again.

I could probably go out and **** the rod bearings rather quickly on a brand new car if I really tried hard enough.

You have no idea how the motor had been treated before you got it. How do you even know it had 50k and not 150k?

good points....I'm taking the guys word for it as to how many miles the engine has on it. It did surpise me when he said that he didn't even take off the oil pan when he put the newer engine in. Plus I found a few intake bolts he didn't tighten and a few wires that weren't laid in the right places.

I did baby it for a while before I put my foot down, and then again didn't do it but a couple of times. I really babied the engine, the replacement one, making sure that everything was fine before I started working it.

As for the other engine, I am strict about changing oil on time and doing a lot of minor maintenance on the car, regularly. For example, always keeping the fluids full, keeping tire pressure right, keeping an eye on the fluid levels even between changes. If I had diapers when I had the first engine, I would have used them for polishing rags on the engine. Needless to say, I did everything to keep that engine up, and barely ever ran it to redline.
