I am working on a 3.0 that had stalled like a water pump had leaked on the CPS so I tore it down, there was a significant amount of motor oil inside the timing belt chamber. I went ahead and replaced the water pump as it due. I noticed that the cps sensor plate on the crank was slightly bent. Fixed that and put enough back together to start the motor just in case there was a issue with that plate. Started it up and it made noise i am not familiar with. I only ran it for about 30 seconds but the noise was there and it was coming from the lower main cps area so I tore it back down to check and see if there was any issue with the cps scraping that back sensor plate. Nothing was out of place and no grinding or scaring on the cps or sensor plate. This time I put it back together enough to run the motor without the timing belt cover as I thought maybe the noise was form the belt or main belt dampener pulley slightly touching the plastic cover. Nope, still made the noise. I then notice that there was a pretty good drip of oil on the floor and exhaust and it was coming from the area where the oil pump assembly merges with the block/oil pan. There was also oil on the main lower coolant hose where it connect with the water pump assembly. With this said, would the oil pump be culprit of the noise, the leak and the fact that it stalled out and would not start. It acted just like a waterpump/cps failure but there was not apparent water/ coolant in the weep holes or the area of the cps. Just oil. Thoughts?

Update, pulled the main timing belt sprocket off and the sensor plate was bent and showed signs of scaring to that was the noise. The oil is coming from the front bank cam seal. I will replace both of those but it still begs the question. Will the oil cause CPS failure if the sensor is saturated with oil?

Over time coolant will cause it to fail. Don't see why oil would be any different.

That is what I am thinking.... If oil can cause problems in the plug wells then it probably the culprit here.

Age, heat, liquids, all can contribute to sensors failing.
