( If you've seen this before, it's because I posted it and it disappeared, so...I'm posting again. )

I think my oil pressure sensor ( sender ? ) is leaking. Since it looks like a simple threaded sender , like I've seen for years, I was wondering if it is only in need of some teflon tape on the threads or do these get holes in them ? to be clear, this is the sender on the back side of the motor, on the driver's side. I was looking down from over the top, because some poster said you could get to the back O2 sensor that way, and saw this. ( By the way, I still can't see the O2 sensor from that angle, so I really don't think I can get a simple wrench on it, as suggested. )

Its 10 times easier to get it from the top IMO. IIRC I used a 7/8's socket, and got to it with very little problem.

Although I have been wondering the same. Because Mine leaks a little too. I tightened it down good, so it must have to be sealed with something like you mentioned.

The sensors themselfs do sometimes start leaking, just grab a replacement somewhere. I am not sure where to start looking in that country.

Thank you for mentioning you can see it from up top because im installing an oil gauge tomorrow and now i wont have to get under the car. Its quite easy to access from up top. You just gotta search a little :thumb:

Mine is a replacement. Is it a "no no" to seal it? It does leak a considerable amount as the engine temp goes up.

You must use some sort of sealant on the threads, just keep it off the first 2 from the start. (you don't want tape or pipe dope in the engine)

Very rarely does an oil sending unit start to leak around the threads. They develop a leak around the center or core of the sensor. When they leak they should be replaced. They are not expensive and are available at any auto parts store. You can seal the threads with a thread sealer, like teflon tape. Be careful to NOT overtighten it as the threaded part can be broken if you "muscle" it in.

I just ordered one from RockAuto for about $6. My locals didn't have one listed. I may get the valve cover gasket set too, as I am REALLY tired of the little leaks ! WHo has the best price on those ? I think I got my last kit from AutoZone, but I had to tell them it was an earlier model, as their dumb computer system didn't know it was the same part.
