I have taken all the nuts and bolts off this damn thing and can not get it off the damn car. I dont see any more bolts holding it in place and Im sure that the gaskets can be holding it that tight as its leaking like ****. Any ideas??:thankyou:

The gasket is actually RTV. There are some tabs on the block/pan that allow you to use a screw driver to pry it off. No need to panic.

Did you remove the starter?
Did you remove the dust shield and the 2 bolts that pass through the bottom of the oil pan and screw into the tranny?
How many bolts did you take out?
How many nuts?
It seems to me that the easiest one to forget is on the back side (firewall) of the oil pan all the way towards the tranny. I use a 1/4 in drive socket and extension.
:salute:
The final battle (MTX) is getting the oil pan past one of the "divits" on the passenger side CV shaft. There is a little "wing" on the oil pan that will contact the cv shaft if it isn't positioned just right.

The dust shield is located between the block and the transmission. If you remove the two bolts that clamp the transmission to the block, you can pull it out. That hole you look through when you pull the starter out IS the dust shield.

It doesn't look like there is a dust shield on yours.

However, there are 4 nuts and 12 bolts, and 2 of the bolts go from the oilpan into the tranny.

I used my razor knife and got some of that rtv cut up a little bit... kinda started it one spot.. and carefully wedged a prybar in there... then cut a little more , another screwdriver.. cut a little more...

you get the idea...

But it was a fighter... lotta cussing... swore there was a magical force holding it on.. it'll come off... eventually.

I feel ya on the gremlins holding it on. I only had 1 bolt the went into the side of the oil pan to the tranny. only had 3 nuts and i have checked over and over again and do not see any more nuts and bolts. I guess its back to the screwdriver and knife and try to pry that ***** off.

Opposite side from the starter is a 10mm nut that is partially hidden, you can easily miss it. It normally takes a "swivel" to get it out.

If this is MTX, I know theres a little bracket on the back of the oil pan that holds up the y-pipe.

I use a rubber mallet on the lower half of the side of the pan to break the RTV bond.

Put a prybar behind the "wing" on the back of the oil pan and use the half-shaft as the fulcrum. I spent days tugging at it but this method got it off in seconds.

take a rubber mallet and softly smack the oil pan where the starter was, on both sides of the front end of the engine and the remaining side on the back. if it doesn't shift on one side check it for any nuts or bolts that you may have missed. if you don't see any give it a couple more smacks with the mallet until it loses its grip. I had to pull my oil pan off not less than a month after putting it on after doing the rod bearings. the motor hadn't been started and the RTV was still very fresh and I had to beat the shit out of the pan to get it off. You'll also find out that once you get the pan back on even though the RTV is still fresh and nowhere near dry it'll probably be able to hold the pan up while you put all the nuts and bolts back.

How much RTV are you guys using??

I've come from the school of thought where less is more ....

when I put it back on I used enough to cover all the places it needed it and a little bit higher than the indents. it oozed out nicely in all areas but didn't ooze out as much as the fist time or have as much exess as what was on there when I started. it still had enough stiction to hold up the oil pan. I kept a hand on it to make sure it didn't go anywhere though.

Well I have went back to try to get that nut thats hidden with a swivel and still cant get the correct angle on the nut. the damn swivel is really loose and I can barley stick my hand up there to guide it. This is really beginning to be a P I A!!!!!

Try wrapping a bit of masking tape or something around the ujoint, that should keep it stiff enough to not fall over, and will just fall off or flex once you're on the nut.

Borrow a "ball bearing" type swivel for that.. I say borrow because they are generally more expensive than what you will probally want to pay.

I use a 1/4 drive socket to a 1/4 swivel/short extension … and then adapter to 3/8" drive to another short extension using a 3/8" ratchet.
