Ok... I've got a flickering oil light and i've been told to do the bearings.... umm.... The light ONLY flickers when the ENGINE is hot like at N... otherwise it doesn't and it only flickers at idle when the engine is running hot either from the heat or if i've been running it hard... if this is the case and it is the bearings... do you think i can wait two weeks to do it... b/c the light isn't on at every light when i'm idling just sometimes when its hot.... N E one ever get this done and know how much it costs?.. I also need a new oil pan gasket.

Thanx

Those lights come on at about 5 psi just FYI. You might want to install an oil pressure gauge just to see what's going on. If you want to be really cheap you can do like I did with my truck. I got a $7 mechanical oil gauge from walmart. Later I got a T fitting so I could have my idiot light. You never know, I might be tired at night like an idiot not looking at my gauge so I got the light to wake me up and tell me to shut the engine OFF. You're SHO might be running great now, but if that oil pressure is low she won't be long for this world.

If you are using 5W-30 oil, your first step is to move up to the weight recommended by Ford in the owners manual for temperatures over 90 degrees and that is 10W-30. What is the idle rpm when the light is flickering? A low idle will not supply the required oil pressure.

i believe my idle is just under 1k like at 900 rpms.... i noticed when it was hot outside like 90-100 degrees that the light would flicker at idle... now that it has cooled off it hasn't came on in the last 3 weeks but once... the was when i was at the N of the NORMAL for the temp gauge... it only flickers at idle when its above 90 degrees..... or the engine is really hot... still sound like a bearing?

Thanx

Tom

And since the light doesn't come on now do you think i'll be ok to drive it for a while because the oil pressure is fine? like for 3 weeks til i get the funds to get my intake gasket and bearings replaced... is this an expensive fix... how many hours labor is involved...I'm gettin the bearings and gaskets from SHO NUT.

Grrrrrrrr.... yes, me.

Again, not to sound like an ass, but we told you it's best not to drive this car in this state. You need to know what the problem is. If you don't believe me send an IM to Dyoct2 and ask him. He had the exact same problem. At least get someone to hook up a mechanical oil gauge to the car to see whats going on. Good luck and no more posts asking if you can drive the car. The answer's no. :)

He had the exact same problem and he now has a moderatly modified paperweight. At least get someone to hook up a mechanical oil gauge to the car to see whats going on. If you like the motor that is in there, don't drive it. You will most likey spin a bearing, and judging by the $2200 I just paid to replace a motor, you don't want that. Park the car and rent one for a week or so, bike, walk, run, don't drive that car......

but, that's just my advice, take it fwiw...

I think i may of found the problem... I've had the SHO for about 2-2.5 months... just got an oil change and noticed in the reciepts in the glove box that the previous owner used 5 w 30, and where i live it gets pretty hot.... 90+ degrees... I switched out to castrol GTX with a motorcraft filter using 10w30. Even when the car runs hot... the light doesn't come on.... doesn't come on at idle or N E thing.... I'll prolly still get the bearings done b4 winter comes though....

Yeah so maybe now the car runs at 6 psi of oil pressure instead of the 5 psi that will trip the light. You need to get a gauge on there.
