Ok-

I've read this post and as I understand it is right on point to my problem as well. 93' SHO ATX @ 96K - has a nasty "jitter" between 2500 and 3500 rpms in every gear - most noticable in 3 and OD (almost like a tranny problem where searching for the right gear...but no fluctuation in tach). No problems above 3000 rpms or below 2000. Consensus seems to be oil in the wells. Obviously, mine seems much worse at this point. I've only had my SHO about 9 months, and have had very little opportunity to climb under the hood except for routine maint. I'm also sure it needs a 60K. Is this really that hard to do??? Ford Specalists is about 125 mi. from me, and has quoted approx. $800 to fix the oil in wells.

Thanks for any help - Long live the SHO

$800? That's ridiculous! Look, get the part number for the Felpro gasket set that has the valve covers and plug wells gaskets and do it yourself. All you have to do is pull off the intake and valve covers, it isn't a hard job. $72 for the kit and maybe a couple of extra bucks for other gaskets you may need, although at 110,000 miles I didn't need any other gaskets for my car. That price is too high, get some more info from here and do it yourself.

yeah that price is absolutely ridiculous, theyre full of crap. just make sure you get the oil out before you pull the plugs so no junk goes in your cylinders!

For $800, they were probably quoting a top end 60K.

That would have included the gaskets to fix the problem.

i would say see if you can jam paper towels in there to suck it up first, or a rag, whatever. then go to the local office store and get a can of compressed air for cleaning keyboards and blow the remnants out (unless you have an air compressor at home by chance, in which case just use that). perhaps someone has a better idea. i just got the plug well seal set with valve cover gaskets for $90 i think it was from cincysho.com. i know shonut has them also.

I smeared that blue Hyplar stuff on the gaskets just to make sure they would remain sealed, that stuff really sticks and never completely dries, unlike silicone, and is resistant to both oil and gas.
I also use synthetic oil, which is not as ******* gaskets, and is better all around anyway.

You might want to do a search on that... quite a few people have had nasty experiences with full-synthetic oil. boink

from what Ive seen the preferred oil for the SHO engine is Castrol GTX...
