What are the flow charistics for the FL-1A? I have been using the Fram HP-1 for years and I can't say enough for it. There was a very good filter comparison on the FAQ several years ago. We need a solid 12 GPM filter for the 3.0, the origional filters that Ford supplied were 2.5 GPM filters.

That's the ST8A filter. Costs a whopping $1.99 at Walmart. thumb It's a hair shorter than the oversize Mobil 1 M1-301 filter so it might fit ATX SHOs. I bought several of those ST-8A filters while I use conventional oil with the Auto-RX treatment. Once it's back to Redline synthetic it's back to the Mobil 1 M1-301 filter as well.SHOZ123:
FWIW I just switched to the Wal-Mart SuperTech oil filter in the FL1A size. Very highly recommended on the BOBISTHEOILGUY site and very cheap too. Made by the same people who make the Mobil 1 and K&N filters.
The benefit is the larger filter will flow more oil through it, for better filtration. There may be other pluses but thats the main one.JoeHoe_SHO:
Yes, I've also heard that the stang oil filter will work on the SHO. What are the benefits of having a extra quart of oil flowing through the engine. Does it further reduce friction? Is there a down side to the larger filters? Are they noticeably larger?
I believe that more oil would equal more cleaning capacity. (I may be wrong) It wouldn't reduce the friction as only a certain amount of oil can go through at a given time.JoeHoe_SHO:

When I was at wal mart I used their computer to find the FL-1A. I used a 91' stang 5.0 as a refference, compared the FL-1a to the one that was supposed to go on the SHO, and bought it.JoeHoe_SHO:
Next time I change my oil, which will be in like a month(just changed it) I will give the stang filter a try. FL-1A...what year(s) 5.0 Stang are those from? I should add 5.5 quarts during a oil change in which I would be using the FL-1A??? More or less? I'm gonna go drive to FLA and back just to change my oil to give this a try wink
