My 3.2 is looking pretty good internally.

I want to replace all seals and am having a hard time with the oil cooler.

I want to remove it to properly clean the block but I'm afraid I wont find the gaskets/seals needed to put it back on. I have seen posts where people suggest taking the old seal to a hardware store for a replacement.

Does anyone have a picture of the 2 seals for the oil cooler? I think seeing a picture will help assuage my fears.

Their is one O-ring that seals the cooler to the block and another O-ring that is internal to the oil cooler. The internal one is not necessary to replace. The one against the block gets flattened with age and is what is prone to leak.

OK thanks.

I got the cooler off and the OE gasket was ... uh ... finished. I'll try to get some pics tonight.

I have an oil filter gasket that looks to be the right diameter, but it is A LOT thicker than the OE gasket. Anyone have input on oil filter gaskets used for the oil cooler?

I know that I can buy the large o-ring that seals the cooler to the block from Josh and he even sourced an internal oil cooler o-ring for me. From the looks of the old cooler-to-block gasket, I'm not inclined to put in another of the same design. In the second pic, you can see how it just collapsed along the edges. Then again...it was in there a while.

This thing must have been leaking for a long time...

I doubt that I'm the first one to try the filter gasket in there...but if I am...I won't be the last...once people see how well it fits...:type:
I'm going to leave the cooler torqued onto the block for a bit and then inspect the gasket to see how well it sqwished.
I think the donor filter was for a 3.8 Windstar. It's an FL-820s Motorcraft oil filter.
