OK, got oil line hoses, clamps, filter - and I'm ready to button this thing up so can put oil in it. So I decided to double-check whether I torqued down the cooler nut. Checked the engine book and it doesn't list a torque value, but I did see this image.

So I pulled the cooler off ad looked at the mating face - got a gasket - which I'm assuming is "A", but nothing else. So what is "B" - another seal or gasket?

I assume "B" is to prevent clean oil and non filter oil mixing. If about to add oil. Since can't spin the oil pump without motor. I took a NEW pump up spray cut the wand hose off and added more hose. I tested first I was able to get 20psi on gauge to find it would work. Maurice

iirc, the "union bolt" has an o-ring on it somewhere closer to the head end that prevents the oil bypassing the filter and/or the cooler, so I don't think there is a "B" part. When I had mine off last, I only remember the larger gasket.

btw, make sure the gasket is large enough - I could not make the oil filter gasket work w/o leaking so I found a large o-ring at NAPA that I put on there to make it not leak.

Look closely at the cooler. That "B" o-ring is usually entrapped in a little pocket. Whenever you pull the heat exchanger off the block by removing the passageway bolt/filter bolt, that o-ring usually stays in the groove of the heat exchanger. If you don't have it there, I can mail you one. It is a weird looking o-ring with a "flap" edge.

Just as Tom stated their are two O-rings in the oil cooler. The smaller one that goes on the bolt was discontinued long before the larger one that seals against the block.

I'll double check my Helms for a torque value, I don't remember if I used a torque wrench or not when I installed mine. Not too loose, but not to tight as to damage anything. That cooler is aluminum remember.

Thanks, upon closer inspection, there was a seal behind the raised boss at the center. It doesn't fit real tight over the bolt so it wasn't noticeable.

My outer seal fell apart when I tried to move it, so I'll go the o-ring route.

Thanks again.
