I was on the way home from Atlanta yesterday and encountered a wired issue with the speedo in my 95. The needle started bouncing back and forth about 5 mph and is reading around 5 mph off. The problem was worse around 80. Eventually I got a weird rattling/grinding noise coming from the instrument cluster and the speed indicated would jump 15-20 mph higher. A sharp tap on the face of the cluster caused it to settle back down for a while. This doesn't exactly seem to match the cable issue that seems so common. I'm guessing maybe something to do worth the gears of the cluster?

I think you need a new speedo gauge. I'm thinking the little bearings that the magnet asm rides on are worn out and causing that to rattle around and make noise etc.

So I need to replace the whole cluster or is that available separately?

You need a new speedo. It can be replaced separate or you can replace the entire cluster. My 91 had the same problem. It got worse the faster I drove. Eventually it would read 15mph higher than it was and I had the same buzzing coming from inside the cluster. I used the opportunity to swap in a 6 digit cluster.
