Alright, so I think I know what O/D does but why is it on automaticaly? Should I turn it off whenever I get in the car, should I leave it on, if I drag should it be off?

Just mainly, when should I have it on and when should I have it off?

Leave it on anytime your not gonna "drag"

When you drag im assuming your shifting it manually? I'd leave it off for that, but leave it on 99.9% of the time. **** i get by just fine and i cant turn mine off as my wires broke for the switch

Overdrive is beneficial to you when traveling down the freeway. Other than that if you dont have a need to be in that high of a gear cruising around town or anything turn it off if you don't want it shifting. It is also good to have it off if you are driving in really mountainous areas or towing. Me, I leave mine on all of the time.

I heard that it is bad to shift with the automatic gear boxes like that. Like putting it in 1st, second and then drive.

Overdrive should be on most of the time since it enables an extra gear that lets you get better gas economy, without it the car will not coast when you let go of the gas and instead there will be much more engine braking. If you are going down a slope hill or mountain you should keep it off or even use lower gears like1st and 2snd.

Old wive's tale. The transmission doesn't care a bit if you shift it manually.

It it were detrimental to shift an automatic manually, the manufacturer would not have built that facility into the vehicle.

I've tweaked my tuning to give maximum engine braking in third. Here it will keep the TC locked and the FIs shut off as long as the rpm stays above a set rpm level. The FIs will stay off even when down shifting to second then first.

In OD this will not happen unless the vehicle speed is quite high.
