Anyway, when I removed the WP, two bolts seem to have broke off inside the housing (they were pretty rusted). YEA!!!

I assume I need a new housing now too. Is there anyone that supports the SHO forum I could buy one from?

Thanks!

Make sure you buy the one with the housing , not all of them has the housing with it.

Here's some places : shosource.com rcmautomotive.com shonutperformance.com rockauto.com to name a few.

Which bolts did you break, the little 10mm headed ones, or the 12mm headed ones?

If you broke the ones with the 12mm head, you broke them off in the block, not just the rear water pump housing.

The water pump housing to engine block bolts are M8x1.25.

The water pump body to water pump cover is M6x1.0.

Get a box of both at AAP and you'll be set. Don't forget the anti-seize!

Yeah, I broke one in the block off. I soaked it in PB Blaster but this thing was TIGHT! I felt it start to come out then it just broke. The bolt was VERY rusted. All the others came out fine, but by the looks of everything so far, whoever worked on my car last was a damned idiot:mad:

What should I do now? Bolt extractor?

if it's one of the ones that bolt it to the block, you MIGHT be able to get away with not reinstalling it. It's a pretty big gamble, though, what with the belt putting pressure on it and whatnot. You might be able to get a drill with a cobalt bit (not Kobalt the brand) and drill the bolt out, space permitting. Then you'd have to clean out and retap with a tap & die set. Doesn't seem like it'd be a lot of fun.

The thing is, the pump housing is STUCK on untill I get the busted bolt out! It's on the bottom right hand side, so I wouldn't really mind not putting that one on. I'd just TQ down the others a little bit more.

Man, this sucks! I'm open to options people.

Your going to have to drill it and use an easy out. Personally I would heat the crap out of it around the bolt. Sometimes even heat the bolt and let it cool and heat it again and let it cool. Makes it expand and shrink ever so slightly and breaks the corrosion free enough to get it out.

Bottom right has to go in. That's a coolant passage. If it was one of the top two I might be tempted to leave it but a bottom one you're going to have to fix unless you want a perpetual coolant leak.

Since you have a replacement rear pump housing on the way, my suggestion would be to hammer the shit out of the old one until it comes off or breaks apart. If the bolt seized in the rear pump half and not the block, getting that out of the way may allow you to just put a pair of vise grips on whatever is left of the bolt and unscrew it from the block and save the hassle of drilling (especially there, it would be too easy to drill right into the water jacket and leave you completely screwed).

So, let me make sure I have this right. I have water pump off. So, the only thing left right now is the housing. I need to just hammer it and break the housing away from the block?

Would that do any damage to the block? I can wiggle it right now and it seems to be in there pretty good.

Thanks BTW!

I think Chris might have had a few beers already. I wouldn't hammer it off, you might damage the transfer tube behind the housing. You can't pivot it either because of that transfer tube. You need to find a way to pry it straight off the block. The transfer tube might come with the housing but that's okay; new housing come with the three new o-rings, one for each end of the tube and one for the housing-to-block interface. Pry a little, pivot a little, pry a little, pivot a little.

Good luck.

Well, I just made progress!!!

I went outside, turned on my flood lamp, wrapped my big, manly man hands around the housing and yanked the ***** off!!!!

The bolt is still in the block but I'm going to put a pair of vice grips on the rest of it and take it out. I'm soaking it in PB blaster over night.

Now for another question........is the tube that the housing was attached to, the one that runs under the intake mani, supposed to be loose? I can wiggle it up and down.

Yes, it's loose. Only thing holding it into the other side is an o-ring. You can pull it out. Just wiggle it around until it pulls out.

Ah, ok. Will I be changing that o-ring out?

It's been a while since I did it, but I think yes. You usually get three o-rings with a water pump. one for each end of the tube and one that gets sandwiched between the block and the back of the water pump.
