I took the end off the wiper stalk to fix that intermit prob and there is a plastic piece in there that looks like it should turn and come out but it doesn't, Is there something that I am over looking. I decided to walk away from it before I broke it and see if the sho boys know whats up.
Thanks Eric

your lucky.....i had this done a little while ago.

ok. lift the wiper so that it is on an angle away from the windshield
there are metal tabs you must push....they are blocked in by the wipers when the wipers are down......

hope that helps......

BTW the speed is controlled by the ground...there is always power to the motor. and the ground relay unit is in the dash. so if you can't fix it mechanically, it's electronic. and if you need a switch i have one.

I'm not trying to take the wiper arms off, I am taking the multifunction switch apart because the intermitant wipers don't work and in the shotimes site it says that once the tip of the stock of the multifunction switch is off there should be a screw but mine has some sort of plastic star that looks like it should turn off. Thanks for the help though!

Do you have one? How much? Where do you live close to Toronto? I think that replacing the whole piece is probably the way that I am going to have to go. It's an 89 model, Thanks

yeah, kinda near T.O.

here's what happened. my wipers stopped working, so i got a motor and had my mechanic install it.......still no go. so he though it was the swithch......got one from ford for 100 bucks.......still no go.....finally the "module" worthe over 100 bucks gest replaced and it all works again. but the switch is non returnable cause it's electronic..... so i have one that i am sure works fine. from my 92 sho.... you want it???? i dunno how much to ask.... but not 100 bucks. make a reasonable offer and we'll go from there ???

the whole assembly is also the 4 way button... and mine is sho specific...you can't use a taurus one...atleast not on mine.

I have to check out at Ford whether or not the 92 will fit an 89, I don't really want to spend too much for it because of the age of the car but I will let you know after the weekend with an offer, if it doesn't fit I will let you know that just so you know in the future. Thanks again Eric

The same multifunction switch is assigned to all Gen I and Gen II (probably Gen IIIs also) SHOs along with other Ford products. It is a "parts bin" piece and very common.
