I've been thinking of getting some new CV shafts for my car. Since I'm going to be dropping in a 3.2, it would be prime time to do any replacements such as that as well as a new power steering pump and rack.

I found some remanufactured units, but they are for a non-ABS car. I was told that I could buy the ABS rings for them and put them on there, but I was wondering how difficult this would be to do. If it's a total PITA, I'd be better off just getting the boots IMO.

There is nothing wrong with mine with the exception that they need new inner and outer boots which I can get from Josh at SHO Nut. In these days of parts in short supply, it makes sense to me to keep spare parts on hand.

Thanks in advance guys for any help you may offer. thumb

It is no big deal Beth to put the new rings on. I have done it. The only thing to check out is to make sure you get an accurate picture of those axles toi make sure that they have the step in them needed. They should all you have to do is heat up the ring and slide it on the new shaft.

Bizzy,

If the axels you get have the right outer CV joints, that is ones made to accept ABS sensor rings, then adding the rings is do-able.

However, you should check at a local dealer's parts department, or any other source of Ford parts, to see how much the ABS rings cost.

If would be cheaper to get axels with the rings already installed. Or, if all you need is boots,
why not just replace the boots on your axels?

You should also look into getting outer CV joints from Raxels with the ABS rings installed. I think once you find out what the rings cost you will want to change your approach.

Removing the joints to change the boots is no big deal. I'll be happy to walk you through it.

Installing the rings, properly, takes a special tool and a press. The ring, installed, should be centered in the sensor. The special tool sets the ring where it needs to be.

If you decide to buy the axels and rings separately and need to install the rings, e-mail me about the process. I think I can help you.

Lastly, your SHO+ looks great! rangerj

Thanks for all the info guys. I was thinking if it was no big deal to do it, then why not.

With my 3.2 swap, I'm getting new parts for most everything that is being replaced. I figure that if we're going to do a job, we're going to do the job right, sparing no expense basically. And while I could add new boots onto mine and they would be fine, I find that having spare parts "laying around" may prove to be beneficial for me in the future if you know what I mean. (Ford continues to discontinue parts on us right and left rant )

I will check into getting some that already have the rings on them and save some time and money in the process.

Thanks again for the responses. It is much appreciated. I sure am glad that we have each other to rely on for answers and help. It makes a world of difference. thumb
