So I'm thinkin bout buyin a gen3 that has an exessive engine noise. Based on my limited knowledge on gen3s, I believe it is a cam problem. Car is in good condition otherwise and the price is $1000. So I guess my questions are, what are some ideas on the problem, how do I fix it, and is it a reasonable buy? Thanks

Cam welding is a $700-$1000 project, depending on exactly what you have done. If its noisy due to loose cam sprockets, it can literally fail any second, so I would trailer it to the place where I was going to have the cams welded.

I don't think I'd spend $1k on it with that problem, unless it was cherry otherwise. If its a typical rusty northern car, I'd keep looking.

Know of any places to get it welded in Wisconsin? I believe there's a place in Madison but I'm not. Sure
