My turn signals have quit working -- i have checked the fuses -- they appear to be good

how it happened:
I had ran out of gas -- pulled over at the side of the road -- put on the hazards (forgetting that they do not work) --- turned them off and then the turn signals would not work (this happened last time I turned on the hazards but it was a momentary problem) ---

Was driving from chicago when this happened -- stopped at a dealer -- completely useless

I have been hand signalling -- but this does not work too well at night (the detroit police pulled me over a couple nights ago) --- so now I need to get the signals working asap

any ideas???

Sounds like it could be a bad hazard switch. Then again someone may know better than I.

This could be it. Have you tried cleaning the hazard switch? Lots of dust gets in there. Even depressing the switch on and off a few times might clear things up temporarily.

The first time the signals went out -- I pressed the hazard button a few times and then they came back -- so maybe this it
but this time I have tried pressing it several times and it just wont come on (has been out 2 weeks)

More than likely the switch can be cleaned. Either that or replaced with a new one. I just cleaned one from my '97 and it is very easy (once it's out).

Pop the end cap off, spray with a "plastic safe" contact cleaner. Using a cotton Q-tip clean the old grease out of the wiper stalk end. Then using some fine sand paper clean the 4 little contact that are used in the wiper stalk.

Then spray the entire thing with WD 40 and work all the switches. Do not be frugal with the WD and liberally hose it down while working the switch.

Then let sit over night or blow dry with an air hose, wipe off, use a dab of Vaseline on the wiper contact and put it back together and in the car.
