No start

I had a two hour drive from home to school yesterday, and the car ran like a champ. When I got into town, i noticed the car was idleing real rough, and i could smell anti-freeze.

Well, I went out this morning and tried to start the car, it turned over for a few seconds and the tach was moving erraticly. Then nothing. All of the lights work, it has power, but it dosen't even click when i turn the key.

I was thinking maybe CPS or CID? What do you guys think? Thank you for the help.

If this is your assesment of the current condition and that actually means the starter motor isn't engaging, the problem is in your primary starter circuit.

Battery, cables, starter and solenoid, clutch or tranmission interlock, ignition switch. There are plenty of previous troubleshooting posts about these.

Once you get it running, then focus on the rough idle and the antifreeze smell. While possible, they are not too likely to be related to a "No Crank" condition.

yeah, if theres no click then you know where to start. my battery cables just decided to go last week and i couldnt start the car either. you should get a voltmeter and see if any power is getting to the starter. you should see 12V across the two wires with the key turned. dont try to measure the amps though, most multimeters will fry under that much current. i know mine can only handle 10A. it is possible the starter is bad too if there is no click. no click shows a bad solenoid, which is on the starter for gen 2's, so you may need to get under there and rip it out. good luck.

I had it towed to the ford dearlership yesterday, i need to call them this morning and let them know its there so they can get to work on it.

I know Ford rips their customers off on pricing. Should I ask them to use that parts I bring them? I think it might be cheaper that way.
The starter problem makes sense, any thoughts on the coolent smell and rough idle?

Gee, what do you think Taco Bell would say if you asked them if you could bring your own ingredients into the restaurant because "their pricing rips off customers" and you want to save money?

If you've already taken the car to a dealer, it's pointless for us to provide troubleshooting assistance at this point in the game.....

They quoted me over $300 to fix the starter, i picked one up at napa for $167.00 and Ford said they would install it for $67.00, or 1.2 hours of labor. I'm a poor college student and when I get the chance to save $70 i hop on it.

The reason I ask about the coolent and rough idle it that I believe they will be harder to diagnose. I feel that Ford dosen't know shit about these cars, and any information I could get by the educated minds on this forum that could help me save money would be wonderful. thumbs_u
