Hi,
I have a 98 that would crank all day yesterday but wouldn't start. The battery went dead after too many attempts, so I put it on the charger last night and tried to start it this morning and it still wouldn't start, I decided to give it a little bit of gas and it started right up. What could be the issue? There is no code besides the secondary air pump that's always been there, car is welded, battery is couple years old, alternator is 6 months old, replaced fuel filter 40k ago, all 8 new spark plugs and 4 new coils 20k ago. I'm going to replace the fuel filter today and see if that's the culprit. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated thanks :).

Sounds like the IAC is stuck closed. How does it idle once started?

Idle not very stable, surges around 500-700. Went out to start it again, didn't have to give it gas but took 3 tries. First couple times sounded like it about start to but died. Any way to make sure it's the IAC, and is it hard to fix or replace?

I'd guess the IAC for sure then. You can take it off and try to clean it with a mild solvent.

I took the IAC out and cleaned it all up, changed the fuel filter, that stupid plastic clip is a PITA, I managed to bust one side of the plastic fitting trying to get the filter out :(. The white clip still fit and the filter feel snug no leak so far. Any issue with a semi broken fitting? Where can I get a replacement? Car seems to idle a lot better, I'm going to leave it overnight to see if it will have trouble starting tomorrow. Thanks for IAC suggestion.

I think you can get those clips in the Help!! section of auto parts stores.
