Started located on front of car right under the oil filter. Make sure the small clip on wire on the starter hasn't pulled loose. This was a constant problem with my 95 ATX. New starters come with better connection method.

Its probably not even the starter then.

Turn on the headlamps, do they illuminate good?

Then try to start the car with the headlamps on. Do they dim when you try to start it?

If the headlamps do not dim when you try to start it, you have a couple of options.

Not knowing the Gen2 wiring or specifics about the starter, Ill be a bit vague.

1. Blown starter curcuit fuse
2. Bad ignition switch. Even if it turns the car to ON, it may not work to START
3. Bad switched lead wire (ignition to solenoid)
4. Bad starter solenoid The Gen1 has a fender mounted solenoid. I seem to recall that the Gen2 has a starter mounted solenoid.

Not even having a "click" pretty much rules out the chance that the starter is even getting energized. The "click" is a noise the solenoid makes when it switches, and diverts power from the battery to the starter to crank the motor.

Wait, first you said no clicking.... now you say it clicks every time?

Also, did you ever confirm if the headlamps dimmed or not when trying to start it?

If it does CLICK, then the solenoid is energizing, and the starter SHOULD be getting power.

BTW, no need to tow for just a bad starter on the MTX SHO. They roll easily, and are easily push started. Ask me how I know:nut:

I've had 5 starters go out on me in 3 years. If yours is original, go to oriley's. I've had starters from checker and autozone. 3 faled within 10k of each other. Autozone had no trouble giving me a full refund. Checker was a bear in getting a refund. Needless to say I didn't get the core refunded. Good luck!

Starters are easy to change. Do it yourself.

Check your connections on the starter. My 95 ATX had a smallish black square connector that slides onto a flat prong on the starter. It stays drenched it oil, looses it gripping power over the years and would continually slip off of its prong creating a no start condition (then I would get "the call" from the better half !). I would slide under the car and reach up (if I could stand touching hot metal) and re-attach this connector (more or less blind), and the car would start. When I got a replacement starter the connector was eliminated with an improved version and the problem was solved. So, take a look at your connections if you haven't already.
