When I turn the key the fuel pump spools up but does not stop. What does this indicate? fuel pump, regulator, ??

There does not appear to be any leak.

I don;t think our pumps shut off, they are not on demand pumps, they are on with the ignition, off with the ignition.

When you turn the ignition to the "on" position, power is sent to the fuel pump. If within 2 seconds the EEC does not receive signal from the CID, the power will cut off from the fuel pump until signal is received.

I appreciate the responses. However I'm still without suggestions of a dignosis of the problem.

When I turn the key on the fuel pump makes a noise (usually the noise goes away within a couple of seconds). The noise no longer stops.

Does this indicate a bad fuel pump, or something else?

could be a sticky relay.... give the IRCM (black box on radiator) a tap... and see if that does it...

I suppose I should also state the car does not start, causing some difficulty in driving to work.

I'll check the IRCM tonight.

Any other recommendations or things to try to diagnose the problem.

Well, we're going to need some more info.

When you attempt to start, does it crank the motor over but doesn't start, or does it not do anything at all? If nothing, is there any clicking? Did you ever have any symptoms of a poor running SHO or have you checked your codes? Did you do any previous work on the SHO that resulted in a no start?

More help is needed, for all I know you could be missing spark plug wires! :nut:

Situation:
1995 grn/mocha mtx, 70,000 miles. Ran fine up until two days ago.
Motor cranks but does not start. Upon turning the key instead of the fuel pump spooling up (spinning noise) and stoping, the noise continues.

So when one turns the key on, and the fuel pump "spools up" and stops... this is because the car has not started. As soon a one ignites the car the fuel pump restarts and supplies the rail with pressure.

I've never heard of that happening, but I wouldn't worry about that if the car were able to start. Once the car starts, your pump is on constantly.

Have you pulled the engine codes?

Well as embarrasing as this is it must be done.

I had disconnected the EEC plug in order to purge all the presets, and forgot to plug it back in!

So if you ever hear your fuel pump spool up and not stop spooling... you might want to verify your EEC is hooked up.
