Hey guys,
I was searching for stuff to help me with this problem but found nothing specific enough, sorry if im flogging a dead horse here, I went to get my car smoged and it didnt pass, it passed visible, and high RPM HC test but fail idle HC and low and high RPM co2 tests. I was told that the car does not have cats on it, so this might be part of the problem, but that wouldent solve the CO2 problem it seams to me. I have a freind that works at firestone so the did the diagnostic test on it and found these codes:

551-Iac circuit fault

136-O2 sensor, bank 2 ?

332-EGR valve not opening

Also two more that i didnt get form him. He said one refered to the MAF so we cleaned it off. and im not sure what the other one was, it didnt come back the second time i guess.

I dont notice any significant driving problems, but i also havent driven any other SHO. the smog guy said he thinks its running rich, so im not sure what to do. check engine light seams to come on when im going fast but then seams random at other times.

Car is 92 MTX with custom exhaust.

Your Codes:
136 (R) Oxygen sensor not switching/system lean Left or Front HO2S
332 (R,M) EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittantly
551 Problem in Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) solenoid/circuit

Your Explanations:
136 - The front bank oxygen sensor is not switching between rich and lean as required and most likely the rear bank sensor is not doing too well either. Both sensors should be changed at 60,000 mile intervals.

332 - Either the EGR valve is not opening or the EGR ports (nostrils) in the intake manifold are plugged. Check the nostrils first and clean if blocked. If no blockage, then inspect the operation of the EGR valve.

551 - This is often mistaken to be the idle air control valve, but it is actually the intake manifold runner control (a.k.a. secondary solenoid). Make sure the electrical connector is attached to the solenoid on the rear intake plenum above the number two cylinder. If connected, the solenoid may have failed.

cool, i just got the sensor (only 1 for now) and installed it in the front exaust mainifold, car runs a bit different now, but only a bit, if any. the code was for bank 2 and the guy told me to switch the sensor in front so thats what i did. I got it from kragen, 42.99, its a borg warner. i also cleaned the MAF sensor as i may have already said. do you guys think that this will be enough to pass my smog? and if you think the egr valve problem is the main thing please leave feaback on how to clean the nostrils and how hard this project is, i am only a novice mechanic, but i get a clue quik.
