I had to replace bulbs on my instrument panel and after bolting connecting the panel back up and bolting it in, I have problem with the lights. eek!

When the light switch is moved to the first position the parking lights work fine; when I move it to the 2nd position (headlamps), the low beams don't come on and I get a clicking sound from the switch and several at other areas behind the dash - near the radio, etc. madflame

No smoke or any blown fuses. It just keeps doing this when I shut the switch off and try it again.

It seems unlikely that the instrument cluster repair - changing bulbs - or reconnecting the panel could have anything to do with the lights.

Could it be that the headlamp switch just went bad at the same time? shrug

Also, if use the auto lamp feature to turn the lights on (when the ambient light is dark enough), I get the same clicking noises. madflame

Then this makes me believe it is not the main light switch unless the auto lamp feature is somehow tied in with the headlamp switch.

Most surprisingly, the high beams work when I pull in on the directional signal lever to activate the high beams.

I can drive at night like this, but it would be annoying as I would have to hold the directional signal lever all the time; if my hand slipped or tired, I would have no lights. rofl

Any ideas on where to troubleshoot? headbang

You may have a dead short in the low beams. The clicking noise you hear could be a circuit breaker tripping and reseting.

The wiring goes from the switch through the multifunction switch then to the low beam cicuit.

I found the problem.

The headlanp wires were pinched against the instrument panel when I bolted the latter back in.

After placing the wires out of the way and in their "normally" routed position, the problem went away. :D

Sheesh - sensitive SOB isn't she?
