Self-test

Have a look here for instructions on how to run the EATC self-test. You may have a failed blend door actuator. Let us know what the test results are.

We had a simular situation. The part to fix it was $$$ ,so they said.
I had an inline open/close valve installed in the hose just in front of the fire wall, with a push/pull cable mounted by the ashtray, pull for heat. Route the cable properly and it works fine. :thumb:

I have never been able to get that self test to work on either of my sho's. 91 or 95. Anybody figure that one out? I know it works because I remember doing it to one of my past sho's.

Car should be warmed up before running the test. Press both FLOOR and OFF simultaneously, let go, then press AUTOMATIC. Wait for the diagnostic, hopefully you will get a "888" then press the COOL button.

Ok, now I feel like a dork. :nut: Just ran out to the 95 and tried it. It works!! Got 888 and all the lights lit up. You know what I was doing wrong? I was holding down the floor and off button and then pressing the automatic. On shotimes instructions it does not say to let go of the floor and off buttons after pressing them. I guess I was thinking it was supposed to be a three finger salute, ala windows style.

I just did this job on my '95 a couple of weeks ago, same symptom (no heat), and same test result (code 02).....I tried and tried to figure out a way to do it without tearing out the dash, but there is just no way. I did manage to do it without disconnecting the speedometer and instruments. I just kind of swiveled the passenger side of the dash out, and kept the driver's side closer to it's original position.

There is really no way to rig this job....you could somehow hook the blend door up to a cable, but you would still have to take the dash out to attach it. If you do that, you might as well fix the problem right, instead of some cheesy DIY setup.

Also, the blend door motor comes with a new mounting plate. The plate screws on, while the motor unit itself snaps onto the plate. It is nearly impossible to get at one of the plate screws, so instead I just left the old plate and snapped the new motor unit into it.

BTW, just to warn you, the blend door motor costs $85!!

JUST PICKED ONE UP FROM THE FORD DEALER. I DIDNT THINK IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE CONSIDERING THE PRICES ON OTHER PARTS. ILL GIVE IT A SHOT THIS WEEKEND. PARENTS ARE OUT OF TOWN SO I CAN TAKE OVER THE GARAGE :naughty:

SIDE NOTE: I DIDNT INTENTIONALLY DO THAT CAPITAL LETTER THING. IT JUST CAME OUT THAT WAY

That's interesting. The replacement unit that I purchased from Ford did not have a motor that was interchangeable with the existing bracket. I had to replace the bracket, as well:

Hmm, that's interesting!?! My new motor snapped right into the old bracket. The possible incompatability is a good thing for other people to know about.

I had read through your thread before I started my blend door job, and was planning on doing the slotting the plate thing that you did. But snapping the motor off the plate was a quicker/easier solution for me, since it fit.
