I am the lucky recipient of a 1993 SHO automatic. I have to admit, just looking at that work of art under the hood makes me glad to learn and work on it. However, trans fluid is going through at a prodigious rate. Before I have the underside steamed to facilitate the search, is there any widely known culprit I should pay special attention to? The Trans. was rebuilt and upgraded by a local Ford dealer 50k miles ago, so I am hoping it isn't in need of a rebuild/replcement quite so soon. I have only owned it for three days, and I got it with full disclosure that it was leaking, but the inexpensive price was too good to pass up. Am I guilty of stupid optimism, or do I have a prayer of making this a reliable daily driver? It has no other problems- it is as smooth as butter when running and everything works as intended. I would welcome any advice- on this car I am in deep water. Thank you.

Am I guilty of stupid optimism,

I think we all are, that's why we have these cars....

Probably don't need a steam cleaning to identify the source of the leak, just drive it up on ramps or put it on jackstands to see where the leak is at.

Once you identify the source of the leak, it should be easy to identify likely culprits.

Fixing them, OTOH, ......
