Maybe you guys can help me out here....
The '90 SLO was running fine one day, and I went to start it to move it. I noticed the fuel pump was not whining like normal(car wouldn't start).

I checked the Inertia switch in the trunk, and it was fine. But, i replaced it with a spare I had laying around.

So, I checked all the fuses to make sure they were all good. *Check*. So, I then decided that the fuel pump committed suicide.
I changed the fuel pump and sender. Still no noise. I then changed the relay pack on the radiator support. No dice.

So, I started hunting around looking for broken or loose wires. I found a broken wire at the external voltage regulator. I had replaced the volt. reg. a couple years ago, for a No-start condition. GREAAT! I thought this would fix it.

I got another plug from the junkyard, spliced it in, and hooked up the new voltage reg(old one didn't look too healthy..terminals were all corroded). POS still won't run.

Is there any hidden fuel pump relays anywhere?
If I can't find the problem, would I be able to wire the fuel pump to a switch, and run it off of a fuse in the fuse box(acc.)?

This is supposed to be my winter car, and it died before winter even got here

Thank you.

Do you have power at the pump?
I will be checking that tonight. If I don't, I want to run new power cables to it, and run it with a switch and fuses....

I had the same problems with an '88 Sable I use to have (melted voltage regulator plug and no start/ no pump prime). If the pump is shot sometimes the brushes stop making contact with the comutator which is just like having an open in the circuit. My Sable did that and so did my dads F-150 (an '88 also). It might be fuel pump time for you! :D

Did you change the fuel filter? I have herd putting it in backwards can do funny things. Also check for power at the inertia switch.

Get a voltmeter or a testlight and a wiring schematic.

Quit guessing, start troubleshooting.

First and easiest place to check would be on both sides of the inertial switch in the trunk during the 1-2 second interval when the ignition is turned on. You could also ground the FP lead on the EEC test connector to apply continuous power to the circuit.
