Went to drive my 94 ATX this morning and push the brake pedal down and it goes to the floor. I put it in gear and ease forward and apply the brake again and the same thing happens and I VERY slowly come to a stop. I tried pumping the pedal repeatedly, and I get no change. With the car off, I can pump it up some, then the pedal reaches a point where it hits the floor. The brakes were fine the night before, although I did experience a little fade after some spirited driving.
I haven't looked very closely yet, but I haven't seen any leaks, and the fluid in the reservoir is fine. The pedal and stuff under the dash appears to be alright. I get no brake idiot light.
I'll have time to look at it tomorrow; anything in particular I should look for? I'm thinking it is the master cylinder, but this is one part of the car where I'm not that knowledgeable. Is there anyway I can know for sure if it is the master cylinder before replacing it? I saw on rockauto.com that they have several different master cylinders for around $60. Would one of these be what I would want? I couldn't really find anything on Autozone.com. FPN has one for about $386! eek! I'm kinda stumped right now; any opinions?

I went through the same thing a couple years ago, but in reverse. I was eating pads like they were oreos :) so I took it in and found out the the brake return motor or whatever was gone. Since it was already in the shop I told them to bleed and flush the fluid and they found some debris in the system, which they said could cause a ton of problems... i.e. calipers seizing. I'm no expert here on any level, but try cleaning out the system if you haven't done it lately or put your car up on stands and take the wheels off to get a better look at where your having problems. Hope I can shed some light here....

It only happens to 94 SHO's. :D

Without pumping it, does the petal sink all the way to the floor(try both on and off i dont know if that makes a diff)
If it does sink it is not building up pressure.
Master cylinder maybe but i would make sure.
If there is a leak in the line it would lose fluid and do the same thing.
Check ur fluid level first, and try what Puckpimp71
said clean out the system

Im not an expert, so take it for what it is worth.

if your wheel pulls to one side real hard and your pedal goes to the floor YOU HAVE A LEAK on the other side. plain and simple.. it doesn't have to be a major leak gushing fuid it could be a pin hole in the metal line. there is a small possibility of a abs motor going out buuti doubt it. just get the car up in the air and have soem one hit the pedal a few times and see if you can find the wet spot. good luck Ken

thanx i think i have narrowed it down to a bad master cyclider... I THINK ...i put a new left fornt caliper thinking it was seized and the reason for the pulling to the right... well it still does it... no biggy it only cost $13...but if it is the master cylinder then i have a costly repair on my hands( $119 to be exact from a good parts store, from ford a whopping $464 OUCH).... i'll have to look into what puckpimp71 was talkin about....this royally sucks.. SHO no brakes Stang blown trans....

THINK FORD FIRST DUHHHH.. j/p i love ford!!!

Well I have brakes again. I'm guessing that I just had some air in the lines, but I'm really not sure because I hadn't driven the car really hard and they worked fine when I parked it. I just spent a bunch of time playing with it, looking for leaks, and pumping the pedal. I've got a stiff pedal now, and the car stops fine. I have not actually bled the brakes though.
allsho94, if you are absolutely sure it is a bad master cylinder, RockAuto.com is probably the best place to buy.
