Hey guys
well last night i had someone following me to a party and i got there and they said i had no brake lights. When i first bought the car it had no brake lights but when i looked at the brake pedal i seen a wire came undone from the stoplight switch and once i hooked it back up the brake lights worked. I figured last night that the wire just came loose again and when i looked it was still in there real good. So my question is it common for the stoplight switch to go bad? and also what else should i check if it is not the stoplight switch? It is only 8.99 from a local parts store so i am gonna replace it anyways. Also what fuse controls the brake lights? and does that fuse only control the brake lights or does it control other things too? like taillights or blinkers? cause i do have taillights and blinkers. Please anyone with any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Matt

Sounds exactly like what I went through with my 92. Had me all worried about electrical gremlins, but $10 and 45 seconds later it was fixed. All it takes to replace is pulling one cotter pin and unplug it!

YAP, same issues here, only dont get the piece from autozone, go to Napa or a well known parts store, my a.z. part got hot and melted, just some 411 for ya, and check your owners manual for the fuse #, but i imagine it's fine w/you still having taillights and such.

Well hey guys

i foud out i have some sort of short. I replaced the stoplight switch and i should have checked the fuse first but i didnt haha and it was blown so i replaced the fuse and smoke came from the sensor underneath the brake fluid resevoir and it blew the fuse. I think the sensor is called an ABS switch or at least that is what autozone called it. they said it was only available from the dealer. Right now i have the wire harness unplugged from it so i can at least have brake lights. I havent noticed any probs from with the brakes from having it unplugged. but can anyone tell me how i replace this once i go to the dealer to get it? and what does it do actually because it looks like it leaks a little brake fluid at where it hooks into the master cylinder. so any help is greatly appreciated. thanks for the quick replies earlier.
