Just figured I would throw this out there. SCDA is running at NHMS next Tuesday. I believe there are spots available and I'm thinking of signing up. Figured I'd throw it out there and see if anyone else is going or is interested...

Had a good time yesterday. It never ceases to amaze me how dumpy the New England SHO guys are nowadays. No interest in autocross or road courses, but if there's anything with the word "drag" in it, everybody flocks to it. That's fine, but live a little guys, will ya?

So how did you do?
I did fine. Anytime I can get some track time, it's good. I did not realize how tough that track would be seeing it's an oval with a 3/4 mile loop added. A lot of off camber and some tough transition from different types of surfaces. Your Volvo would've fared better than me.

I ran my 245 Hoosiers and I just didn't have enough rubber for the uphill right hander after 4. Our class session leader recommended rotating the tires at lunch. I didn't and my LF tire was toast on the last run. The RF was pretty close near the end of that last session and I came in 5 minutes early because my pace was falling off rapidly.

I may be getting TD 18x9 wheels and may switch to 265/35 18 Toyo R888s to get some more rubber down...

The Volvo may have been better suited than the V, but I am fairly sure James would fare better than Randy on a track regardless of vehicle. What is the bolt pattern on the V, Ronal is closing up shop and has some NIIIICE wheels. Cheaper than TD, and likely heavier though.

I whacked a pothole that went to China not too long ago on 684 W, right at after exit 5 leading into Mt Kisco NY. Took out two tires and two rims. So my Pirelli PZero's are toast and had to replace them in a bind. Got a set of four Continental ExtrememContacts for a good price, but they do rub. Same size as the stock tire, but they rub. Looking into some spacers and another set of wheels/tires for an summer performance tire.

Bill Moore ran his S60R at NHIS before Randy, and he liked it much better with his M3 from memory.

Glad you had fun James! I think the V is pretty capable there, but how did you like the downhill left hander from the top of the hill / flag station down through the cement barrier / right hander approach to the infield? Was a pretty harsh transition coming back onto the oval before.

Last time I was there I had the 911 in the rain. THAT was ugly. Bill Prout (Ian's dad) asked me when I was complaining about the handling on the "sports car", "I've been behind you a lot today, and I see you've been fighting it all day; it's definitely not your friend out there. So, how many times today have you been off?" I told him none, he replied, "keep doin' what you're doin'..."

What did you manage for speeds at the end of the front straight before ducking back into the infield? Just curious.

I thought that transition was going to crack my subframe by the end of the day the way I was going on the first session. But our classroom instructor, Luka, recommended getting against the wall and giving less steering input and staying wide through the turn. Doing that took away just about all of the jolt on the transition and didn't take away too much time since I kept my speed up a little more.

The V's brakes is where it shines. Just about every small car I was behind would be a little troubled at first when I followed down the back straight. Smaller cars would enter Turn 1 near the center of the track. I stayed far right. And I usually could dig into the brakes about 50-75ft later down the straight. So I was almost side by side with a few cars, especially one guy with a Cayman S. I routinely hit an indicated 115mph but that would actually be about 108mph or so...

I just could not get into the throttle at all on the right uphill leaving the oval. After that, the rest of the track off the oval was V friendly.

M3 was out of my price range. ****, the S60 was out of my price range but I manage, lol. Trying to get the girlfriend to get a V70R, she wants no part of it.

Ooooooh, V70R... tasty... Jason Mansfield was looking for a Volvo wagon, an 850 T5 IIRC?
