Same here Doug, especially since mine will be different from everyone elses and I don't know how long you hold on to them. [email protected]

Actually, I keep all of them on my server. I've got several hundred tunes saved and saved again and then backed up. I even back them up to a keychain drive along with my entire company file. These 1G thumb drives are pretty cool.

You guys lemme know when you start getting the tuners. They went out USPS Priority mail on Wed. They should start hitting your door today, Sat or Mon.

Received my tuner today and will install it tonight. Doug, I note on the invoice that the programs are for 87. 89. and 93. Here in California we cannot get 93, my choices are 87. 89, 91, and 101 octane race gas. Do you have a separate program for 91 that I can use? I expect I would be giving up some performance if I used the 89 program. In the interim, I expect I will run the 89 program or run the 93 program and add some octane boost.

California not only gets the most expensive gas (except for maybe Hawaii) we also get the worst when it comes to octane.

just picked up the mail and there it was!
I immediately installed it.
used the 87 program...hey, why not save $.20/gallon?
it is unbelieveable!!! no noticeable loss of power using the lower octane.
the shift's are great, and it knows when to downshift so as not to "lugg" the engine when I get to a slight hill at 35mph.
I "gotsta" believe that it will extend the life of my new torque converter.

all I can say is WOW.
the best $370 I've spent in a long time.

87 octane with the 87 program is all you need. There will be NO noticeable gains in any way with the higher octane gas/ and/or program. This was proven true at the 1/8 mile track.

Interesting finding because the XCal website says:

Question: Does your product require a higher grade fuel than 87 octane?

Answer: While some of our products give you the choice of running 87 or 91-93 octane fuel, only the use of 91- 93 octane fuel in gas powered vehicles will increase the Horsepower and Torque output.

I naturally (and probably ignorantly) assumed that since 91-93 octane would increase Horsepower, that 87 octane might decrease it.

Good info to note. Thanks.

The tuners will come with the three tunes of your choice, data connector for programming the car, instructions on how to use the tuner and an SCT badge. I'm also including a Data Cable for programming the tuner.

I just got my tuner, Invoice, Instructions, and badge -but I didn't get the data cable. Are they available?

X-Cal 2's use a simple USB cable to connect to the computer. This is for the datalogger and reflashing the X-Calibrator. There is no special datacable for the X-Cal 2's.

The X-Cal 1's DO require a data cable for reprogramming.

James,

Obviously the mixup is on my end. I shipped the tuners out based on the last list dated 08/08/05. You should have gotten an X-Cal 2. PM me or give us a call at your earliest convienence and we'll figure out a solution.

Well actually both that answer and your assumption are wrong. Higher octane gas does NOT increase HP or TQ. The octane rating of gasoline is only a measurement of it's ability to resist precombustion detonation. But using higher octance gas is necessary where engine combustion temperatures will be higher such as nitrous. So basically if your engine isn't knocking on lower octane gas, you won't see any improvement in mileage, HP, or TQ with a higher octane gas.

Xcal arrived

My Xcal2 arrived on Friday. I have some questions before I install:

1) The invoice and the SCT booklet both list the programs available, but they don't match. Can you let me know the correct list? I'm at work and don't have it with me, but I can send you both lists I have when I get home, if you need them.

2) The booklet shows the base program as GHJ7. My car is currently GHJ6, at least that's what the sticker on the PCM claims :D I checked back and noticed I hadn't sent that info with my order? Is the GHJ7 just an updated version of the GHJ6?

Thanks

Octane

Higher octane fuel won't give you more power, but it may allow you to run with more spark advance w/o detonating. The extra spark advance (applied correctly) is what gives you the power. The SCT FAQ wording is a bit misleading.

Hey Doug, how much would X-Cal cost me now? Sadly, I didn't have enough money during the group buy, but managed to gather some now. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Matas
