I recently put the Pioneer 7200 from my 87 taurus into my 89 SHO. The problem is, the head unit in the SHO turned out to be a remanufactured one, and the wires were somewhat goofy. I finally got it wired up correctly, but then that night when i went to put my lights on, it acted up. Here's what went down. When you turn the headlight switch on, the stereo goes off momentarily and then flips back on. Same thing when you turn them back off. Also, the radio stays on when the ignition is off and headlights are still on. Could it be that the red wire i connected the accessories cord to the stereo was actually to the headlights? Don't know! It's not horrible, but still strange.... Any ideas?
Thanks!

Ummm....last time I owned a Taurus before this one was an 88. I replaced the factory stereo with a cheap ass Pioneer and was treated to the same problem. A week later, my entire electrical system died on it. I'm not sure if it was in direct relation or what, but you might wanna disconnect the system until you find out what's wrong with it. The SHO itself is a wonderful sound track...

I have a Pioneer deck also. I had to ground the radio to another spot behind the dash, not to the factory ground of the cars wire harness. No troubles at all.

sounds like you hooked the power cable to the dimmer light wire. That would explain it. Factory radios dim when you use the panel dimmer, after markets don't. Makue sure the two wires aren't spliced together either.
There should be three power leads, switched, unswitched, and dimmed.

You were right. Accessories from stereo hooked into dimmer lead on car. The only other free wire back there was the power antenna lead, and since i don't have a power antenna, i hooked the accessories up to there, and it works just dandy! I also hooked up the foglight switch to get power from this so they are now DRF (daytime running foglights)
