I am preparing(Vaseline and all) to take my 89 to the shop for a new steering rack.
Should I let them pick a supplier or buy the rack and have them install.
This is a good shop and has done work on my car for 3 years or so.
Your input would be appreciated since the cost of a rebuilt rack varies widely!
thanks

Based on what I've heard from re-manufactured racks I'd buy one from shosource and have it installed. They offer a better rack than the A1 Cardones. I was at Mike's when he installed a rack in a friend's car four times in one year because of crappy parts.

Ours do include a 3yr warranty along with a pre-paid return label so you do not have to do much to send the core back.

The only thing you may have to worry about with the mechanic is if they will let you use our parts along with warranty's and things of that nature. Some places hate installing outside parts.

Always buy the parts yourself. You will get charged for the best grade part from the garage operator, so you may as well ensure you get the best grade part. That way, you have the warranty information. In the past, I noticed I was always replacing the same parts, over and over again. That was because I was getting the bottom of the barrel supplier parts, but paying the going rate of the reputable supplier. The garage operator will try to motivate you to purchase from him because that is the only way he will warranty it. Try collecting on his warranty.
