Hello sho'ers,

I just noticed a new recall for the Taurus. I think it is only 2013 to current but I would check anyway just in case on the website. Below is the website to check your VIN and I also posted below the recall information. Thanks!

https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/maintenance/recalls.html
  • Recall Description: ON AFFECTED VEHICLES, A COMPONENT WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP ELECTRIC MODULE (PEM) MAY MALFUNCTION DUE TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURES WITHIN THE MODULE. MALFUNCTION OF THE FUEL PEM MAY RESULT IN AN OPEN CIRCUIT CAUSING A LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP. IF THIS OCCURS, THE CUSTOMER MAY EXPERIENCE AN ENGINE NO-START OR AN ENGINE STALL. IN SOME CASES, THE ENGINE MAY STALL WITHOUT WARNING OR THE ABILITY TO RESTART.
  • Risk to Safety: AN ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING OR THE ABILITY TO RESTART, CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Sounds like all the old in-tank pumps as well. I had something similar happen on my 87 GL

Just talked to the service manager and they won't do anything about it until a letter is sent to the owner.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

In some of the affected vehicles, the fuel pump control module may fail, resulting in engine no start or engine stall. In some cases, the engine may stall without advanced warning and without the ability to restart, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE ACTION

DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any new in-stock vehicles involved in this safety recall. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided to dealers the week of November 14, 2016 when it is anticipated that parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to support this safety recall.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of September 12, 2016 informing owners that parts are not available in sufficient quantities to repair all vehicles. Until parts become available, customers should contact their dealer for service if their vehicle exhibits symptoms of engine no start or engine stall.

I work for a Large fleet, Ford has the lions share of our mix currently but we have almost any manufacturer you can name. It's not uncommon for any of the manufacturers to identify a problem and release a recall sometimes several months before a fix or parts stock is available. That's where our Techs pay for our keep. Reservations are made based on fleet availability. Ground 200+ cars for a safety recall and everything we have down needs to be fixed asap, and all those recall vehicles need to be fixed as soon as we have parts or a procedure. That's one thing I'm proud of with the company I work for, we ground or go get any car on safety recall as soon as it's released, that's not true for all the major car rental fleets. I've seen times where up to two hundred cars have sat idle on the lot waiting for parts or a fix to be released from various manufacturers for months (Ford is actually one of the more proactive ones). I have this week off, but it's doubtful we have many if any of the 2015's listed still left in the fleet, the dealer can do mine ( ;

see my post in the maintenance section. literarly the day i picked my car up from dealerfor this exact repair (they charged me almost $400)...this recall came out. The dealer basically told me to get bent for getting a refund until i get my official recall notice in the mail, even though they verified my VIN was on the recall list. I have absolutely zero respect for my local ford dealer right now.

this issue left me more than a minor inconvenience. had my car towed to 2 different dealerships, the 2nd Ford dealer blamed my extremely minor aftermarket modifications (cold air and livernois tune) on the fuel module failure, then i was left stranded without a loaner car 30 miles from home while trying to figure out how to get to work. Then this recall comes out. Im a little ****** at Ford right now in case you cant tell.

I knew it!!! I just read this on msn.com/autos! There's plenty of posts on here about this issue thinking it's the tune or low fluid in the trans or ptu, etc! I've had my car stall several times and it's not major but enough to notice. I was about to give up and just blame the electronic throttle-by-wire technology but my other cars with this tech isn't near as bad at times - I'm talking WOT when switching lanes or turning a corner (not a 90-degree corner) but gradual turn when you can get on the throttle the car falls on its face sometimes! Can't wait to get this fix and see if that's the issue.

Has anyone got their recall letter?
No letter yet, but mine is at the dealership for this very issue right now. They are not sure if the recall will cover it yet out if my warranty will cover it. I'll hear back from them on Tuesday.

Heard from the dealer yesterday and they could find nothing wrong with my car. They randomly started the car throughout the time they were working and drove it around a little and still nothing. I've had it back for 24 hours and it is still operating fine. I expect that tomorrow it will fail to start. We'll see.
