Just replaced my power steering pump today and drove it home. When i first put the new one in, and hooked everything up, i left it on jacks, and started it with full fluid, and did a full steer in both ways several times, constantly checking the fluid. it worked fine. Then i backed it out of the garage, and drove it. Power steerin was great at first. Drove about 100 ft in the parking lot, then power steering went out again. Fluid was still ok. Then i found out that power steering was going out when the rpm's were below 2G RPM. Then after driving it for a couple blocks, power steering worked great. No problems. Then, a few miles later, it went out halfway. I could tell it was working, but, it was still tough to steer. Fluid was still ok. What the ****? how can it work halfway? I can see the fluid circulating in the PS resevoir. What gives?

Ok, i just took it out again. This time i went probably around 20 miles around town, and everything worked fine. Dunno why it did what it did before, maybe it just needed some time to get used to its new home. But now i got this hideous noise when braking that i believe is comming from the rear passenger. Might be brakes, might be wheel bearing, might just be a damn rock stuck in there... but knowing my SHO and my luck, it's probably going to be something big and expensive. I swear, I spend more time working on the damn thing than i actually do driving it.

Welcome to owning an SHO. That's why I'm looking to sell mine.

As for the power steering going in and out...perhaps you had some extra air pockets to work out.

Jesus, did you enjoy putting the pump in?

Got mine replaced mine recently... it was making a whole lot of noise... the damn shaft sounded like it was getting sheared off. I thought about doing it myself... I looked, and looked again, and said forget it.

Wow did it suck!!!

No prior experience with PS pumps until a couple of days ago. No chilton's, no helms, just read SHOforum, and that didn't help much either. So i just went at it. Took about ten hours, i'm gonna say. Way to long, but the thing that slowed me down was that the new pump didn't fit. It was just a tiny bit bigger than the old one. And i wrestled with it forever, then i got a metal file, and started filing away at it, then i realized that was gonna take forever, so after taking it twice the the grinder, it finally fit in where it was supposed to. I was very ****** at that point, and swore to myself that if i got the damn thing in, i'm going to sell this POS!!!
Never, ever, will i blame anyone who decides to sell their SHO. Especially when your not rich, and you do the repairs to it yourself. Which is like me. That car, is such a ****** to work on. problem is, each time something goes wrong, and i fix it again, and she runs sweet, i fall back in love with it... But sometimes, you just have to let go of the things you love, or start it on fire and collect insurance money! thumb
