okay so something new popped up my temperature gauge is getting high past the normal but not quiet into the red but when it gets that hot my oil light is going on is that normal. i just replaced the radiator cap have a new thermostat to throw on. which im going to throw on this weekend but what really worries me is that my oil light flickers when it gets that hot if i rev the engine it goes off again till it is about idle speed then flickers again and it only does this when it is hot.

thanks ben

Looks like you need some rod bearings ASAP. Do some research and you'll find write ups on how to do it. Don't keep driving it or you'll need a new motor.....

you should hear some rod knock once they get really bad but a flickering oil light at idle is a dead giveaway that you have too much bearing clearance. although with the coolant temp increasing it will also cause oil temps to increase as well and with the increased oil temp it will also decrease in viscosity and flow easier. so your rod bearings may still be good but the increased fluid temps are causing the pressure drop. I'd personally change out the bearings if you don't know when they have been done last or if they've been done at all. It's 60 bucks for the kit from RCM and they'll save you a lot of worry and the going rate for a new motor if you spin a bearing.
