I recently purchased a 92 MTX that is in OK shape. One issue with the car is that the speedometer/odometer doesn't work. I dug through the trunk and found this short cable that appears to be part of the speedometer:

Going by some of the posts here and the ever-so-handy Chilton's, I think I can see where it's supposed to connect up on top of the transmission.

I also think this is the upper cable sticking through the firewall here:

Question is, how do I hook everything up? It seems like I'm missing a piece somewhere...

:thankyou:

The cable sticking out of your firewall connects to the stubby cable you found in your trunk which connects to the VSS on the transmission. Makes sure the VSS has the metal clip in it to hold the cable in. If you get it hooked up and it still doesn't work, you might have to check the connection on the back of your speedometer under the dash. That mostly goes by feel, because you can't see it unless you take your cluster out. Good luck!

Thanks for the info!

Unfortunately, it does look like I'm missing one or more pieces in the lower speedo cable. It seems to go into the VSS on the transmission fine, but there is no piece to link up to the upper cable. Plus, I'm definitely missing the clip you mentioned on the VSS.

Know any place to get one cheap? :)

Theres just a metal clip that holds the 2 peices of cable together. THere should be holes to slide the clip thru, and around the other 1/2 of the cable. I think if I recall correctly, Advance Auto has them for like 10 bucks.
