Hello!

I am a new owner of a white '13 PP SHO, 80k mi, GH Tune (w associated spark plugs, MAPS sensor, Therm). Bought from a family member a couple months ago in AZ. Young aerospace engineer looking to go gearhead, not much previous experience w cars.

Starting to brainstorm ideas for cheap n easy mods. This is my daily, and I expect long daily commutes for awhile, so wouldn't do anything to my SHO chasing power or setting drag times, just things to make driving her more enjoyable. Some things I will probably do in the near-ish future:
-- muffler delete: seems like a fun and cheap experiment (seems like a $60 trip to autozone could do the trick), can always be temporary. Have buddies in town w shops, would be a fun saturday morning project, see how obnoxious the volume and drone is.
-- chrome delete: spent $5 on some cheapy black chrome delete tape, gonna play around w it and see if i want to spend $50 on more to delete all exterior chrome
-- BOV: sounds like another fun and cheap experiment to make some fun noises for a bit
-- intake: another reasonable mod to start out with, just need to look more into if/how that affects the tune
-- any other suggestions?

Some other comments i have after a couple months of ownership:
-- Sync sucks - I have a tendency to have all electr stuff malfunction around me, but my Sync is super fragile and finicky (sounds like its not just me). In my 2 months, it's probably shut down for system maintenance probably a dozen times, not a huge deal, just annoying. Phone calls are hit and miss, I've even had it shut itself down a couple times if I am on a call and then start the car and it tries to connect the call. Bluetooth to my iphone is also iffy, gotta reconnect the phone every week or two.
-- GH tune is great: definitely enough for me to have fun driving it around. Definitely want to get in touch w Matt from GH, seems like a great guy from what ive seen in the other forums

Also been thinking of a fun side project (CHEAP) car at some point. I think it would be awesome to double down on a first/second gen SHO, then I can be known in town as the nuts Taurus dude.

Thanks!

Welcome I am in Phoenix as well. Sounds like you have a good platform to start with.

Below is a thread that will answer alot of your questions as well.

I would get all of your fluids changed. PTU should take priority.

General consensus about the muffler delete is most mixed. The 3.5 EB motor really does not sound good without mufflers the tone is blah esp if you have to sit in traffic. Just make sure you have the ability to put them back on if you don't like the sound.

The black out tape is an interesting option. I wonder if it will hold up in the heat here. It may peel and or fade pre-maturely. Plasti dip is another viable option.

BOV: There is a video in the thread above that shows you what you need to VTA (vent to atmosphere) the BOVs.

If you aren't looking for a turbo upgrade, then a K&N drop in filter will be more then sufficient. The stock airbox and a K&N flow more CFM then the stock turbos can ingest.

Sync is kinda goofy. I have it as well. However, I would try a factory reset. You can find it in the settings. Also these cars eat have the knack of eating batteries, so keep that in mind.

The GH tune is great. There is another SHO owner here in Phoenix that has the AO tune. It gets down.

Thanks @SM105K !

Muffler delete is definitely just a temp experiment, won't have a problem throwing them back on if/when i get tired of it!

Pretty much the same story w the black out tape, just want to see how it looks with some chrome deleted, then will probably plastidip.

Previous owner (cousins fiancee) is very knowledgeable car guy, had good records since he owned it. PTU fluids done @ 65k, I decided to wait until 90k oil change to do that, sounds like every 25k is a good general consensus for "spirited" daily driving?

Read thru ur post, thanks for the info. I definitely will message you if/when i have any questions.

Gonna look into that K&N filter & BOV mods, and give the Sync factory reset a try.

Thanks!

You mentioned Areospace. Do you happen to work for Honeywell?

Regarding your Sync issues.....

I'm gonna guess that you have a Sync update to apply. You should be able to download it from Ford's user portal. It's a spider web of a mess, but I'm sure you'll have one. Respond back here, if you can't find it...I'll see if I have a link to help.

Thanks Stan, I did a factory reset on it a couple days ago, all seems to be going better. I can actually make calls via bluetooth and the system doesnt shut down completely, and my music seems to work without a hitch. Hoping it gives me awhile before it starts acting up again.

I have owned my 13 Pp for 2.5 years now and I have only had to reset it once.

Also if things start getting goofy with the electronics, that usually means your battery is on its last leg. These cars eat batteries so just keep that in mind.

Good to know. Batt was repl ~20k miles ago, will keep an eye on it and have it checked out if i get more funky behavior.

The more you use plasti dip the better you get at it.
