Just got this broadcast message last week. I am trying to find out if this filter is ok for our car but Im sure Fords response will be to stay with the FL500S. Ford wont recommend changing something unless they test it on a specific application. This filter will also require .2 qt more oil over just 6qts with the FL500S
This is for the F150 Ecoboost and they run over $20
Here is the message

To:All Ford and Lincoln Dealers
Subject:EFC00063DC New Part Number FL2055, 2011 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost Oil Filter
INTRODUCING THE FL2055
Motorcraft is pleased to announce the availability of the FL2055. This all new oil filter is the service filter for the 2011 model year F-150, 3.5L Ecoboost engine.
All 2011 F-150 trucks equipped with a 3.5L Ecoboost engine were produced with a small diameter (77mm/3 inch) oil filter. The service replacement oil filter, the FL2055, is a larger diameter (94mm/3.75inch) filter. The FL2055 has significantly higher filtration efficiency and capacity than most other oil filters and is designed for added engine protection and long life. For proper engine maintenance, a FL2055 oil filter or an equivalent filter meeting Ford material and design specifications must be used.
If a replacement oil filter is installed that does not meet Ford specifications, engine damage may occur which may not be eligible for warranty coverage. The oil capacity for the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost engine with the FL2055 oil filter is 6.2 quarts (5.9L).

(The smaller filter installed on the early F150 Ecoboost is a FL500S)

would using the larger filter require a change to the oil filter adapter ******? Or is this what ford is recommending used instead of the FL500S on F150's
Any how I was always told with oil filter if you could fit a larger or longer filter the better. More oil the better.

Ford is telling us to remove the FL500S on the F150 and replace it with the new filter. It is a direct replacement.

Most of the changes 5w20 to 5w30 and the new oil filter are because in 2011 Ford went to an active oil life monitoring system. This system can extend you oil change intervals up to 10000 miles. Im sure the testing they have done caused Ford to make these changes for the 2011's and not include the 2010 because of the 5000/7500 mile intervals.

I ran an FL-1A on my 99 SHO (bigger than stock) for about 3 years. As someone else mentioned, if you can get a bigger filter on it, it's usually for the better.

Was nice buying two or three at a time for both the 99 and the Ranger.

Good info. But, it sounds like it would still be OK to use 5w30 for better viscosity (2010) in the summer and the new filter for better filtration and still change your oil at recommended intervals.

Any reason that would not work?

Cheech,

Would this filter be beneficial to use on the SHO?

Mike I can't see any problems using it but I would be.worried if you had engine problems and the dealer blamed the filter. Ford is only using this on the F150 and still calls for the fl500 on the SHO

Yikes -- that's the FL-1A size and makes the 500S look like a toy.
Hope it fits without clearance issues. I'd much rather use that one than the little one.

Thanks for checking for us.

Wow, I hope it fits without problems...the extra oil capacity is also a plus. I like the idea of 6.5 quarts of oil in the engine.

Why change the filter? Stick with whats recommended for your vehicle. Last thing you need is an additional dealer headache that you used the wrong filter.
