I had a newish alpine deck put in last weekend. The shop used a wiring harness to hook it up but no sub. I ask if they could wire it in and that I had a wire diagram for it, so maybe they could figure it out. But tha installer said, no you can't do it, no way.

So this weekend I want to figure out how to wire the stock sub back in. The deck has sub outs. I did a bit of searching. I assume that with the harness the speakers are still running off the stock amp with no signal going to the sub amp.

Any help would be great, thanks guys

You say the deck has sub outs? Are the RCA outputs? If so, connect a seperate amp and hook up a different sub. The stock sub is not worth it.

Here is what I did....

I replace the factory sub with a Cerwin Vega, replace both amps and all speakers, and the HU.

I was hoping to use the stock sub amp for a little while. I have a box with 2 RE 8's. They don't need much power. Later I will modify my stock box and try and squeeze a JL W7 8" in there.

Hows that little 8 bump? Whats your musical taste?

The reason your sub isn't working is because the shop bypassed your stock amp. Since the sub amp gets its signal from the stock interior amp, when they bypassed it, no subby. It's total bull that they can't get it to work, they are just too lazy and don't want to try. Right now I have my Alpine H/U hooked up to my factory JBL system via the Low level outputs on my headunit (That's all it has, preamp only baby) It might be a little bit tough in your situation to get it running right since the amp bypass kit they make for the car utilizes the stock signal wiring. There are two ways you could go, and since you have the wiring diagrams, you should be able to figure out anything. I'm not sure if you have front and rear preamp outputs on your deck, but if you do, Here is what you could do:you could not use the internal amp on your Head unit and instead run your system exactly how I am. You need 4 RCA connectors to attach to the old signal cable via the adapter that comes with the head unit install kit. You put them on, hook it up to the Front and Rear preamp outputs, and enjoy your system through the stock JBL amps. The other option is to run a set of RCAs from your head unit to the back. Then you simply make an adapter to go from the RCA cables to the jumper cable that goes between the two amps. Although I am not sure how the JBL system works with turning the amps on and off. In any case, it is doable, and any reputable shop could do it if you asked them. It is a simple unwillingness to try that you are witnessing. BTW where did you take it to? Circuit ******? Best Suck?

Anyways, I hope this helps, if you need anything else let me know

Best Buy, Circuit City, or any other similar store will sell you an install kit that will still use the factory amp. Be sure to wire it correctly though, a friends of mine had a wire put in wrong and it promptly caught fire :slap:

Actually, I have not turned it on yet... My friend has the same sub and amp in his truck and it sounds like a powerful 10".... I think this will sound really good, as I have it firing only into the cabin. No trunk rattle nor lost bass through the seats. All that sound and I really did not add any weight... Just a few pounds due to heavier magnets and amps.

I took it to a place called Extreme Car Audio. I know the owner a little, but the installer was lazy. Generaly the shop is good.

Yeah, you are defenitely better off going to professionals, I would ask the owner if there was a reason his guys were unwilling to help you out. Generally I would expect better than that from an independant shop like that.

The funny thing is, they are pro's. They've had a bunch of cars in auto mags and I've seen there work. I think it was just the lazy guy.

I'm wanting to run my new HU through the factory amps, but I am unsure  of what to do. If I remove the amp by-pass harness and plug those ends into the right amp, what else to i need to get the sound to pass through to the speakers? If anybody has wiring diagrams they can post, I'd be eternally greatfull. well not really, but it would be ****.

Here's what you do, you get the wiring harness from wherever (circuit ******, best suck, etc) there will be a squarish plug for the speaker outputs from the head unit. This hooks up to the gray cable that runs back and goes to the input of the amps. So, wire some RCA connectors to that connector instead of wiring it to the speaker outputs. The negative is the outside of the connector, the positive the inside pin. Plug those RCAs into the RCA outputs on your head unit for front and rear, and then turn it on and rejoice in the JBL goodness. You will have the amp bypass harness left over, since you in fact don't want to bypass the amps.

Very doable, I did it last week when I put in my JVC KD-SH99.

The stock sub connects to the stock amp, you won't need your deck's subout.

There is a harness for the stock amp wiring, but I cut mine and solder on some RCA connectors.
It's very straightforward since you have the wiring diagram, just get the harness or solder some RCA on and you're done.

In my case I had to get this to match the stereo output to the amp input to get rid of the "pop" noise (it was about $20 at Walmart).

Here's my deck now.

I have an extra amp integrator wiring kit.. I was getting impatient and was sick of waiting for it to be mailed, so I went and bought one... If you look at your stock H/u there is a square approx 8pin plug that goes to your speakers, and then the gray flat one that is the powered one. $12 shipped and its yours... :) email me at [email protected]
Kevin
P.S. FWIW, I have used these particular install kits on the past 2 JBL or regular premium sound SHOs, they're great!
