Hey guys i am now a SHO owner i picked up a 93 with the 3,2l auto. Now my problem the car starts and runs perfect then about 15-20min drive it just dies. It dies like something shut it off not like a fuel problem. Then it wont start unless it sits for about a half hour. After the half hour it starts right back up like nothing ever happened. I have done a search and found some people had this problem and they replaced the cam sensor and or the crank sensor. Im going to replace the cam one first. I just wanted to see what anyone else had to say. Also it doesnt have a check engine light and i havent run the codes yet. Thanks for any input.

The cam sensor will not make the engine quit. It will make it run like shi. It would be the crank sensor. You can tell its the crank sensor by the tach not reading cranking rpm on restart attempts. If the tach drops to 0 and stays there when it quits this your problem. Its typical that if it restarts after cool down it is the pip/cps(crank sensor). If the tachometer reads some movement while cranking, well then I would look a the fuel pump/system not working for reasons.

I ran the codes and pulled a 212
212 (M) Ignition TACH signal was erratic (module/wiring) or SPOUT circuit fault - Ignition Systems

I take it this means the crank sensor is shot. I didnt check to see if the tach was jumping when i tried restarting it after it had died. Let me know if it sounds like the crank sensor then ill go buy that and replace it. Thanks guys

There's more...

You'll probably need a water pump at the same time. Likely causing the CPS failure. Front 60K? What's the service history on the car?

Ok i need help bad I replaced the crank sensor and its still doing it. I need to get this thing running asap. Its not the fuel pump since i can hear the pump turning on when i try to retart it. Would the vehicle speed sensor make it die?

VSS is part of the ABS system. This will not make the engine stall. You may want to have a fuel pump performance test perfromed (ie. pressure, volume and deadhead) to make sure you are getting the correct amount. Did you check for codes again?? You could a defective CPS right out of the box. It wouldn't be the 1st time this has happened!!!

Yeah still just code 212

I would bet you either have a defective CPS, damaged when you installed it or something is wrong w/the plug or wires to the CPS. Did you put any dielectric grease on the plug when you installed it? Check the plug itself?

Look & see if the loom that is routed down the front is rubbing the coolant pump pulley below the pump. Will cause that code. You should check to see if the pump is weeping anyhow.

No everything is routed and cleaned up. I did not damage it whatsoever putting it on. I talked to a ford master tech today and he said it sounds like the fuel pump, so for the **** of it im going to put one in that i have laying around and see if that works. Ill let you know if that changes it at all.

Fuel pump and filter changed and it still dies. The only thing i noticed is it runs fine until its running temperature and thats when it dies.

Well, you'd better just give me your car. ;)

I'll have to think about this one! I would have bet $$$ on the CPS.
