On Monday I am getting my new 155lph fuel pump installed and I was just wondering if there are any other parts I require. I thought I had read somewhere that the valve (check valve?) that keeps the gas in the line should also be replaced at the same time. Is this part of the fuel pump or a separate part that I must buy?

It may be advisable to get a new sending unit. I personally only replaced just the pump and strainer....and the gas tank. One strap came off the tank just fine, but the other strap was a bit rusty and when it came off it popped a hole in my tank. Now keep in mind that the tank has two layers, an inner and and outer. So really it wasn't just the strap that caused the problem. It had rusted from the inside out. Heck, the strap was probably what was keeping the gas in my tank.

Anyhow, I don't mean to scare ya, but be prepared for it just in case. This kind of stuff happens...especially up in the north where we get all that lovely salt spread all over that lovely snow and ice. Times like these really make me wish I could garage my car during the winter months.

Where did you get your 155lph pump? Was it here or did you order it from the states?

I've started advising people to replace the check valve because I changed the pump last summer and have to go back in to replace the check valve when it gets a little warmer. Anyway, some pumps require adjustments to the sending unit so you may not use the check valve at all. You can always take it (valve) back and it's only like $8 at the dealer.

Thought the check valve was part of the pump. hmmmm. Guess not.

You don't need to adjust the sending unit with Walbro 155, 190, and 255 pumps or the 174 and 192 lph Carter pumps. To tell you the truth, I didn't know of any pumps that require adjustment of the sending unit unless your talking about stretching the internal bracket to get the bigger pumps to fit.

Depending on where you purchaced this pump, you will need to get a Taurus Strainer sock for it. The 155 and up pumps generally come with mustang socks which will not work. The sock is about 6-10 bux.

One other thing, the dealer does not sell only a sending unit, and the aftermarket pumps I've gotten don't come with a sender. In order to get a Ford sender, you have to buy the whole Pump / Sender kit, for $185 (list). That's on top of your new aftermarket pump.

Like Marcus mentioned, I use AutoZone socks for just under $6.

I am not sure what you guys are talking about check valve, etc. Do you mean the little rubber duckie thing. I replaced my pump with a Walbro 255lph (that I need to change to 155, cause the 255 has too much fuel pressure). I had to shorten the hose, take out the little bell thing and sodder the wires. Mine even has the mustang sock on it. It is not angled like the SHO sock. Here are a couple pictures maybe someone can describe stuff better. The first two are the stock pump and the second two are the 255lph walbro pump. I got my pump from that cyclone guy but I can't find his webpage now. It was around $100

Yup, the check valve is that red/orange rubber duckie thing in the second picture w/the green clip. Again I'm not sure this thing is absolutly necessary. I'm sure it's there for a reason though. Since I have to go back in I'm now considering the 155. Is this Walbro and does it mate right into the stock sending unit or do you have to modify? Is there any noticeable difference vs. stock?

Thanks for everyone's responses. I looked at the pump I have and I do not see that little oragne duck with it. I just went to the parts store and they couldn't give me a part # for that part? The pump I got was a 155lph Walbro pump from SP motorsports. The guy I talked to was Joe and he said that the pump should work no problem. Guess I will find out in a couple of days.

Northern, the valve is a dealer only part I think. I had a **** of a time w/parts people finding it because you really have to look and most people don't take the time to find difficult things. Anyway the part # is 9h318a and you can only see it at the dealer if you magnify the feul sending unit at least twice (the parts guy let me have a crack at it).

Dealer only part eh? Guess that means I'm out of luck cause all the Ford dealers around here are closed for the weekend now. I will ask my mechanic on Monday to see if he can find this part for me before he installs the pump. I think it is this valve that is creating my hard starting by not keeping the pressure in the line. Thanks for the part # and the advice luigisho!!
