First, just purchased the car and joined the forums.

From what I know the car is a 92 Tarus SHO w/manual trans, 162,*** mi.

Here is my list of problems, I am a mustang guy so please no jargon, I'm already lost in the SHO wiring/CE Light world.

1. CE light on, seller told me it was the coil pack. Bought one, replaced, still get light. Took to local auto zone and had them run codes, this is what came up

539 - Something with the AC? Don't know what to check
121 - TPS, replaced, code still came up
421 - ??

I tried checking the codes myself but I'm not smart enough to figure out the sequence of lights :nut:

2. Tach no worky

Tried a paperclip and it was to short. Tried soder wire and got it to move up to about 3k but dropped back to 0

It looks like it goes up to about 500 or so when I start the car and then goes back to the needle... Is there some line or something I can check, I attempted to take the dash apart and didn't want to tear everything out so I quit, put back together.

3. Fan stuck on high, even when vent is off. Won't adjust with the ****.

Now I read somewhere this is the blower motor something or other. What I'm wondering is this causing the AC code becuase the self test said ac/heat to be off... WTF?

4. Hard start. Sometimes the car fires right up warm or cold, and sometimes I have to crack it like a ****** to get it going. Everything seems well once its running but I'm told I'm losing performance due to the CE light.

Thanks for any help... before I drive this off a cliff.

Chris

Well for 539 it says the A/C was on during the test. Turn it off.

For 121 if you have replaced the throttle postion sensor then reset the computer. Disconnect the battery, turn on headlights and pump the brakes. Let it sit for a bit doing this and it should be good to go. Check again.

wrong forum.

But, if you do a search for the codes, it will probably help you find information for it. Also, search for broken tach, or dead tach, something along those lines and you will probably find something about that.

WOW, thanks. I didn't realize engine/driveline tech was the wrong forum for mechanical mat. for my vehicle. :thumb:

First thing after you get the little stuff fixed is the rod bearings changed.

Next replace your temp sensors.

Third do the 60k.
