New Alt with F78U pulley on it

Just purchased a NEW alternator for the 98. I came home this morning and the batt light started to come on. I got this new one and was checking the pulley after reading the searches. The code on it is F78U and is gold colored. Havent got the old one out yet so cant check it out. Will this one be ok, or change it out.

You will have to swap pulleys, the one on the new alt is from a windstar most likely.

You have to compare pulleys and then hope it's a good unit.

I recently replaced the alternator. Is that why it starts flashing the batt light around 6,000 rpm? Pulley a different size? Overspeed? How long will it last cause its under warranty...:thankyou:

no! thats not the pulley; its just a bad alternator. Get a new one.

Well finally got finished replacing alt. Pulley size didnt matter they were both the same size. Plus has anyone seen one with the casing cracked. This is a first for me.

no! thats not the pulley; its just a bad alternator. Get a new one.

No, it has a windstar voltage regulator, quits charging at 6k.

Mine was cracked just like that when I replaced it.
