Hey guys i'm new to the board and i just bought my first sho it's a 93 atx and i love the car.

Now to the question I bought the car knowing a couple things were wrong with it, well i fixed everything but replacing the vss.

I can't seem the find the vss for the life of me i've tried searching but some people say it's on the pass side some say it's on the drivers side under the throttle body but i still can't find it.

If anybody knows where it's at and maybe a easy way to get it out or if some one has a atx tranny lying out of there car that they can take a quick pic for me where it's at that would be great.

Oh and the car a 93 sho 3.2L atx

hopefully you guys can help me.

There is no easy way to get to it.

It is located on the top of the transmission directly above where the passenger-side half-shaft exits the housing. Couldn't be in a worse spot....

Have fun!

Has anybody replaced this before and if so is it easier to try to get it from the top or bottom of the car.

VSS "fun"

I changed the VSS on my 93ATX from undreneath while I had the y-pipe and oil pan off when doing the rod bearing replacement. Still not easy, but the extra room sure helped a lot. Replace your rod bearings! you will be glad you did!

thanks for all your help guys

I put the car on ramps today and disconnected and removed the y-pipe and replaced the vss.

Even with the y-pipe off it's still not the easiest thing to do but once the motor cooled down it was pretty easy to get it out and replaced it.

The motor was just rebuilt before i bought it so i didn't have to replaced the rod bearings but it would have been i good time to do it if i had to.

As for damage results i only broke one exhaust bolt but it was where the y-pipe bolted to the exhaust so i just bought one from the hardware store and works great.

As for time it probally took me about 3 hours total but, if i drove it on the ramps last night and let the motor cool over night it would have taken alot less time.

So thanks for all the help guys and the vss did fix the problem it nows down shifts when it's supposed to and doesn't up shift so soon.

Nope no code at all.

The car just had a really bad 2nd gear downshift and it would upshift to soon, like if you floored it from a stop it would shift around like 4,000 rpm not even close to redline.

But now the car downshifts smooth and when floored it winds all the way up to redline to shift.

I thought it was the tranny at first and amco said it would be 2,000 to rebuit it, but i just looked thru the forum here and thought i would try that and it worked perfectly saved me a ton of money.

so yeah you sound like your having the same problem the part was like 18.65 at autozone so it's worth a try.
