i have a 93 mtx sho. i am thinking about tradeing a guy for a 96 t-bird with the 4.6 v8 in it. thet-bird needs a paintjob and thats it. my sho has good paint, but could use a new headliner and the front seats are a little torn. does that sound like a decent trade? i am torn between the two cars

depends on milage on both cars, and the condition of both cars really. paint is not big deal at all. Course if i like both cars id go with the V8:naughty:

I'd keep the SHO, you already know about problems that SHO's have and mostlikely know how or who to take it to to fix it. I was just confronted with this same issue but mine was my 98SHO +$$$ for a 97 cobra... I had to think about it my husband ( who is a mustang lover too) said no way! then we thought about the diff problems between either or and I'm very much keeping my SHO.

Thunderbirds aren't fast..... and I'd bet money your SHO will take it in a race.......

the suspensions are sort of crummy.... front balljoints and bushings like to wear out and are expensive to replace if u can't do it yourself.........

keep the SHO

I've driven a lot of 4.6 SOHC T birds and I'd say my SHO will take them.......

I've driven a few Mk8's with the 4.6 DOHC and I think my SHO would give those a run for the money too..... they are dogs

not take thread more off topic, but a 32V Mark 8 @280 getting beat by a SHO? Pass the pipe 38SHO, you're dreaming!

Of course I'm a V8 head anyway, but like Pinoy said, my 97' GT 4.6L in stock form was a dog, but after a $1500 PI head and intake swap, it was very quick.

My next ride is a 90-93 LX 5.0 Vert.

sorry for jacking the thread....

I've done it... a couple of times....
had to wait till third gear to pass him though. We were running 40mph and he was in front of me. We were getting on to the highway, when he hits it. I follow suit, match his pull at the top of second, and start pulling past in 3rd. at the top of third, i had a few cars on him.
The other was about the same outcome. This was back in my 93'.

Yup, 280 hp, 285 lb-ft. The later LSCs had 290 hp, 290 lb-ft. Pretty nice car, IMO. I looked at a couple before I bought my first SHO. At the time I would have rather had the Mk8. They are a pretty fat car, so I think a race with a SHO would be pretty close.

man u really think those 4.6's aren't dogs?

They may not be much in their stock form but they're a much better and easier platform to build on then the 5.0. All of the higher end mustangs (once they were EFI, not sure about the newest body style) utilize
the 4.6 including the Cobra. So dont knock on them too hard!

98SHO +$$$ for a 97 cobra

Depending on HOW much money including the SHO that mustve been one **** of a hard decision, id give up my SHO, and a nut for a cobra!

I think 4.6 are slow....... thats what was used in the cobra because thats what they had..... its not that they are more powerful motors... I think you can look around and find some pretty damn fast 5.0's........ I think Ford switched over to the 4.6 for a number of reasons... probably cheaper to build, not decades old technology so magazines won't rag on their cars... ever notice that? magazines will bust a cars balls if it doesn't keep getting updated with new shit... even if the old stuff works great..... And I'm sure they get better gas mileage and emissions out of them... thats probably the main reason for the switch over.

ever price out what a set of performance heads and cams cost for a 4.6 against a cam and heads for a 5.0......... that will open your eyes a little bit more.

I hate mustangs, but you can bet the farm I'd take a 5.0 over a 4.6
