I need to order a rebuild kit and wondered who has the better more complete kit shinut or southern gear(do they have a web site ) or some one else. I don't have a clue yet what the new tranny needs to rebuild it I am assuming that for my best chance of having it last I should get all the rubber seals and the blocking ring set and as many of the bearings that I can get.
I guess that I will not need much of the syncros I don't think especially if I wait and can use the ones from my old tranny to mix and match.
I also am planning on changing the tranny mount and the subframe bushings. and I may have the rear main seal changed if it needs it.
any one think of any thing else that need done while I have the shop tear it apart?

From my experience you will not need new bearings, unless you ran it along time without fluid in it. Changing bearings you need to be careful of the clearances with the bearing cups. They are precision machined and unless damaged should be left alone.

If you have another tranny to swap parts from (blocking rings, synchros) then you won't need much of anything besides the output seals. I would replace the main seal while tranny is out as well, even though its a major pain in the rear.

Just be careful and mark your parts as to which way is up with a marker when u disassemble. You may want to change your dif pin if you have suspicion of it being worn...I never even checked the last one I did at 130k on it. But the car has never seen burnouts...

I would recommend using Yamabond to put the cases back together...its tried and tested and is the best thing out there in my opinion.

I deffinetly plan on rebuilding the differential as well since that is what caused my last tranny to go.

Don't forget the input shaft and shift shaft seals. You can get the output shaft (axle) seals as the Timkex 3622S for $2.99 each from AutoZone.

How do you know the blocking rings from the donor transaxle are better than the ones in yours?

Yamabond? I personally would recommend Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker. I've used this many times and have never had a sealing problem.

well I had to drive about 35 miles on the tranny after the differencial blew a hole in teh case and dumped all the fluid so I am not depending on anything in the old tranny to be good. also I planned on buying new blocking rings in a kit.
